Wow! I have owned Ashley MacIsaac's CD for ages! I am not sure where I first heard Sleepy Maggie, but based on that song and an appearance he did on one of the lat night talk shows, I bought the CD...

I was over at my boyfriends house when I first listened to Sleepy Maggie. I fell in love with it. It is so relaxing and calming. Wonderful artist.

Do you by any chance whatsoever know where I can find the translated-to-english version of sleepy maggie? Aswell as the gaelic words written out? I've been searching for days, and nothing.

I would love a translation as well. I just did a web search for ""sleepy Maggie" translation" and got lots of hits, mostly from people asking for the translation. I found a lyrics and translation sheet at http://www.geocities.com/celticlyricscorner/compilations/celticmoods.htm#sleepy but it looks like a different Sleepy Maggie than the one we know.

I also found this, which claims to be the lyrics and translation for the mouth music part about half way through the song, but once again I don't recognize it from listening to the song.

I adore this song as well, and stumbled across this page looking for untranslated Lyrics of the song on Google. I checked out the translation sheet, and it is possible that it is the same one. At the top it says (1st Verse) so it might not be the whole song.

Also remember that Gaelic is NOT a latin based language, so the pronunciations of some of the words sound completely different then the spelling would lead you to believe. (for example, the name Siobhán is pronounced "shuh-VAHN" and Sile is Sheila, etc.)

Sad Wedding Day is also a beautiful song.

I am undecided though as to if it the one on the album. Just my two cents

I absolutely LOVE this song. My mom's friend listened to the song and translated it from Gaelic to English, and he said that it was about a Woman searching for her lost child. I'm sorry I lost the lyrics and translation he wrote down... oh well.

i remember listening to this song when i was in grade 2 sneaking into my best friend's parents' cd collection and dancing around. ever since I've loved all of Ashleys music, and even got the chance to finally see him live... if you get the chance, don't miss it!

Hey. For everyone saying how much they love that song, check out his new self titled album, theres a nother song by that same guest, Mary Jane Lamond, (who by the way has numerous cds of her own all sung in gaelic) the new one is called To America We Go, and I like it even better than S.M.

I found this song on Celtic Tides, which is part of the PUtamayo. It has lots of other great songs, like Maid on the Shore, sung by Solas, and Innis Aigh, sung by the Rankin family with the Chieftans.

I used to sing Gaelic myself, and I know that Geocities' lyrics are exactly right. Gaelic is pronounced quite differently in comparison to other languages.

Does anyone know where I can find a phonetic pronunciation for Sleepy Maggie. I know little about Irish Gaelic pronunciation and even less about Scots Gaelic. I am one of those people who sing along with everything, no matter what language it is in. I am finding this one impossible to fake. HELP!
