I recently got a copy of Francesco Rosi’s version of Carmen (1984) starring Julia Migenes and Plácido Domingo. I have fond memories of this as a very well done, sexy and true interpretation of the opera (it is so honest to Bizet’s script that it includes spoken dialogue like in his original work before Ernest Guiraud softened the work by setting the dialogue to music). I am quite looking forward to viewing it but want to wait to watch it with someone who can appreciate it (Opera is an affair best conducted with good company). Until that opportunity arises I am appeasing my appetite by listening to the unabridged recording of the work performed by Risë Stevens. Man that is some good opera right there.
