Which Colossal Death Robot Are You?
Brought to you by Rum and Monkey
After reading both Sven and Michael Burton’s entries on ‘Which Colossal Death Robot Are You” I figured I had to take my turn at bat. Too bad I don’t know who Calibretto is.. looks like I have some homework to do.

I did some google searching for GeekRoar.com last week to see who has linked to posts on my blogs and came across an Epinions.com page on The Matrix with a lengthy review that says
Enter geekroar.com, a ridiculously liberal but simultaneously excellent site which has personality and gave me a lot of Matrix information- including a forum where I could discuss my Matrix views.
Ridiculously liberal? Yeah, I am liberal but is it really ridiculous? Later on the same text he said something else that struck me as odd:
I became a member of that forum on July 1st, I do believe. And I became obsessed with it, and I remain obsessed with it, even to this day. I check it regularly, and out of 106 members, I have done 13% of the posts there, which is quite a lot- I have over 250 posts from 32 days of being there (as of publication date, that is). If you ask me, for a community that small, this is a sh*tload of posts. I hope that soon, in return for my service and contribution of discussion to the site, I’ll get promoted from regular site-goer to moderator, but I doubt that will happen…
Errr… a promotion to moderator? GeekRoar.com is not a discussion board but a blog, there is no post counting, no discussion threads, and no moderators, just me posting as I write stuff and people responding to it. A lot of people on the Film Roar: The Matrix Reloaded Architect Transcript and Film Roar: Matrix Reloaded Theory and Matrix Reloaded Discussion posts did not seem to get this, but still I can only assume the author is actually referring to The Matrix Discussion board set up by one of the discussions participants which took the time to mirror the initial GeekRoar.com discussion and the took it off with full threads.
Still.. ridiculously liberal?

Searching for a US map today I came across a page full of gif animations. There are many amusing and interesting animations linked from this page but the one that fascinated me was an animated map of Sex Ratios in the United States from 1790 to 1990. The map clearly shows the predominantly male migration of Europeans across the United States. I do wish the map showed Alaska as well.

Yesterday I joined my friends from PortlandFood.org in our
April event. We had a Thai banquet at Sukhothai restaurant on 20th and NE Broadway. Wow, that was an incredible experience. We had a dozen dishes served, 3 of which are not on the menu and were prepared specially for the group. Even though I had to avoid four of the dishes because of my food allergy I still had an incredible and memorable epicurean experience. Sukhothai has earned a new place at the top of my mental list for Thai food in Portland, I recommend it to anyone and everyone.

After some research and help from friends and co-workers I was able to find out why I could not find the model to replace the PowerShot G5. It seems Canon has discontinued the G series and intended for the PowerShot S1 IS (announced in January) to take the place of the G5 in the upper-consumer range. During my initial research I had discounted the S1 IS because of it’s lower resolution (3.2 megapixels compared to 5 in the G5) but decided that if Canon thought it would suit my market I should give it another look.
Since the camera had just been announced and few models had been made available I did not find a lot of information from a source other than Canon but I did find a well detailed review at dcresource.com. The S1 is very similar to the G5 in functionality and use. Like it’s predecessor the camera can be used in a fully automatic mode or can be manually set to a specific aperture, f-stop etc.. As the review explains the S1 is not as effective as the G5 in low-light photography and is missing the AF-Assist lamp (found in most other Canon models and used to focus in low light) but it does add a number of other attractive features, chief among them a much higher focal length, an improved movie mode and the Image Stabilizing lens that gives it the IS name. Enchanted by the prospect of being able to shoot a few minutes of 640×480 resolution at a true 30 frames per second I decided to take the plunge and buy an S1.
