Saw a suprising news article on the KATU web site today. According to the article:

The Multnomah County Clerk’s office plans to issue marriage licenses for same-sex couples starting tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. at their office located at 501 S.E. Hawthorne.

Taking a look at Oregon’s marriage law, it states that marriage is a civil contract entered between males who are at least 17 years old and females who are at least 17 years old.

Way to go Multnomah county. Here is hoping the licenses stay valid through the inevitable legal challenges.

Damn! I heard about it first, here! (Why didn’t I hear about it from any of my other channels…?) Dude!

Multnomah has done pretty well in terms of taking a stand for queer rights — still, I’m surprised at this action. I seem to recall that they didn’t want to take a stand on Gulf War 2, though San Fran was beckoning cities to declare opposition. I had logged it in my mind as, “Oh, Multnomah wants to pretend that it’s not political and not involved.” Well… Go them. : )
