Going Home
3/3/03 4:07 PM
Waiting at JFK for the flight that will take me home. I am pretty tired right now; once again hope to get some rest on the plane. The flight leaves at 5:30 and spends two hours sitting in Cincinnati. My friend Lisa is picking me up at the Portland airport, which should be around 11:15 tonight. By then it will be 3am local time. I may go into work a bit late tomorrow so I am not there totally exhausted.
This morning we slept in, and then went out for a walk. It was very windy outside, about 10 degrees. We walked across Central Park and looked for a digital audio recorder at an electronics store. We hit two more stores, one electronics and one shoes before heading back home. A slice of New York Pizza and a Gray?s Papaya Banana drink later and off I go to the airport.
I have very much enjoyed my trip but am very much looking forward to being back home. I cannot wait to slip into my hot tub tomorrow and just soak for a while.
3/3/03 8:30 PM
I decided to get off the plane and stretch my legs while waiting in Cincinnati. I remembered that they are not feeding us on this flight so I just bought a bag of Toffee Peanuts. Not exactly dinner, but I hope it will carry me home.
The plane was for some reason full of Croatians. They had just connected from a Czech airlines flight and they all got in Cincinnati. None seemed to be traveling in any sort of a group. It left me curious, it is not often that one sees a plane full of Czechs nor would I guess them to all want to go to Cincinnati.
Hmmm.. the peanuts are far from tasty. I may take my ten minutes before we board. and go foraging again.
8:40 PM
Munchin? on a Powerbar and fantasizing about first class travel. The screens at the Delta terminal offer to upgrade me for $100 to first class. I am tempted, not enough to pay it, but tempted.
11:42 PM
Desperate times call for desperate measures. I just paid $5 to be able to watch a heavily edited version of ?Die Another Day? on the plane. The screen was fuzzy, the sound crappy and rather than use their sound-through-a-plastic-tube headset I decided to use my own earpiece even though it was a small speaker and I could only get one channel.
The flight is empty enough that I was able to move myself to poor-man?s first class. Exit row seats that is. The good news is that I have legroom. The bad news is that the emergency exit next to me is freakin? cold.
3:06 AM
12:06 am local time. Just got home. I am very tired (and very cold) but happy to be home. A quick check on email, a check on work email and it is off to sleep?.
