Museums, museums, museums

The Academy of Design Museum was absolutely gorgeous. They had an exhibit that centered on hotels and included all sorts of interesting detail. There were beautiful hotel designs, futuristic hotels, a gallery of photos and diaries from a hotel maid who liked to go through the personal belonging of guests, even a couple of modular slot rooms from a Japanese coffin hotel that you could slide into. I was surprised to find that I actually fit in one of those rooms.

After the museum we popped by a church, decided to skip the Guggenheim and headed up to ‘El Muse Del Barrio’. The Barrio museum was free, but only had one exhibit open. From there we headed to lunch at a Chino-Caribbean restaurant. If you have never been to one of these, they are a blast. The place looks like a Chinese restaurant inside and out, but in addition to two pages of Chinese food you also find two pages of Caribbean (Cuban) food. The wait staff is all Chinese but all speak Spanish both to the clientele and to each other. The food is great.

Next Sara and I went shoe shopping. We looked around and got a good idea for what she wants but did not find ?the shoes? for her. After that we went to the Sex Museum, which was surprisingly good and informative. The museum is not very large, but is full of history and information on sex and the sex industry in New York from the earliest days of the city to modern times.

Sara and I then walked all over the place. We walked up and down Soho where we did not find a bar I used to go to. We walked to the East Village where we had some great tea at a very hip little Japanese tea bar. We then walked up and down Greenwich Village and finally took a subway up to 42nd where we enjoyed the light show in a freezing wind.

We just got home about a half an hour ago, where I discovered that after wearing dress shoes for a week straight I have developed some serious bruises on my toes. The bruises are all where the shoe bends and are a deep purple color. Once I get home I intend on not wearing dress shoes to work for a week but giving my feet a break with my Merrell shoes.
