On an airplane between Portland and Dulles (Washington DC)
Got up at 5:00 am this morning to catch a town car (cheaper than a taxi from my house) to the airport for an 8:00 am flight. I am feeling much recovered from my cold, though I still have a sore throat and a light cough. I am very glad that the cold lifted when it did, this trip would have been painful to do in the state I was in last week. The trip thus far has been uneventful. Some air turbulence, we are promised winds upon landing in Dulles which should bounce the plane some. I am very glad I bought a pair of ear buds for my laptop and pre-loaded the hard drive with MP3s, by my count I have about 500 tracks to choose from.

Jesus, did I say this was going well? Well it went horrible. We landed in Dulles alight, only to find out that American Express Travel Services had booked us standby! Standby for christsakes. Dulles was an absolute mess, United even worse. United barely has enough people to cover their desks and the people that are there are bitchy and grouchy. Weather had all kinds of flights cancelled and the desk help not wanting to help anyone. We got grouched at, yelled at and generally not helped in any way.

Well, at least we got a hotel. United sucks. American Express Travel Services sucks. I was on hold with American Express for a full hour (I timed it using my palm pilot) before giving up. We are going to sleep and will reconvene in the morning. United says no-one has any seats on any flights going to Rochester until at least Tuesday evening (and that is a flight that leaves at 5pm, goes to Pittsburg and then to Rochester!). I will make calls in the morning to see what we can do. Until then we are stuck in WA DC. At least we have Internet access though!

    The Truth About Charlie (2002)

Some sort of morbid curiosity about how Mark Wahlberg (a.k.a. Marky Mark from the Fuky Bunch) would interpret the role made famous by Cary Grant in the original film Charade (1963) made me want to at some point watch The Truth About Charlie (2002). St…
