At the bottom of the Frankenstein picture, in the caption, is the name Samuel West. Is that THE Samuel West of Howard's End?

Posted by: heathcliffe on February 25, 2004 10:09 AM

Yup, same one. Here is his entry in the IMDB: Samuel West

Arrrgh, I am so pumped for this movie! I saw the trailer on TV awhile back and it put me in shock for about a half hour! It was just unbearably cool!

I had a chance to see Van Helsing at an advanced screening and just posted my review for the movie. I am sorry to say that the movie is little more than a summer action flick but did have a lot of fun at it. You can read the full review at Film Roar: Van Helsing (2004)

Posted by: Leopoldo on May 6, 2004 05:29 PM

I had never watched a horror flick or anything with vampires in it before, but when I saw the preview for the movie Van Helsing, I was totally obsessed with seeing it. I watch the trailers over and over. They never seem to get dull.

Posted by: Amber on May 7, 2004 07:03 AM

I just saw Van Helsing last night and I thought it was awesome!! The monsters were everything I hoped they would be and the directer did a great job bringing each one to life. Van Helsing was also great himself. He was very... how should I say this... outgoing. He had a serious side mixed with a bit of humor with he does show a lot of in this movie. His monk... sorry... FRIAR.... friend also does a lot of the comedy. The Dracula story has always interested me and this movie just basicly opened a whole new portal. For about the first 20 minutes or so, the movie is in black and white... but don't worry... the rest is in color. The way Dracula's brides are put together is unbelievable... especially when they scare you all the time which I garrentte they will. Fans of Hugh Jackman will be looking forward to this... he plays the role of the infamious vampire slayer himself. But fans of the entire Dracula, Frankenstien, and wolfman stories will be happy with this movie as well. From the moment the movie starts to the moment it ends, Van Helsing will take you on a thrill ride like you have never seen before. I defenetly recondmend this movie for teenagers and adults who love monster movies and also love getting the crap scared out of them. I gave Van Helsing a two thumbs up for the intence action/adventure. Once you go see this movie, it'll make you look at the Dracula story in a whole new dimention.

Posted by: Kitty on May 8, 2004 06:24 PM

okay, so i saw van helsing. i thought it was a really good movie. some would disagree i'm sure, but you have to think about all the backround elements. they depicted dracula perfectly, and i loved their idea of a werewolf. i am so tired of those lame scenes were the werewolf just looks like an overly hairy man! it was great how they showed it as the wolf inside the man and all he did was rip the human skin off, and there it was, the beast inside.anyway, see it. really good.

Posted by: moviechic on May 8, 2004 09:52 PM

kitty, i can't agree more. the friar was just the right amount of comic releif. van helsing himself was great as well. i loved how he was young for once, in all the other movies he was old! i must say, i have always been interested in vampires. the whole subject is almost taboo really. i love to hear about the first "vampire" ( vlad the impaler). i kinda of believe in vampires myself, ofcourse i realize that it is just fantasy, but it's nice to believe in something imaginary every once in a while. also, dracula, once again, was perfect. he had that intencity that made you held to him. he was so seductive. I LOVE THAT!!

Posted by: moviechic on May 8, 2004 10:03 PM

I agree with so many people. I thought this movie was awesome. Everything about it was. The best thing was the Wolf Man. It was incredibly realistic. I loved how it tore it's skin open and the best came inside. And when it changed back into a human the fur was ripped off. It was cool. I never at first expected Van Helsing to turn into a werewolf. But the big black wolf version of him was so cool too. He kicked Dracula's butt. It was sad though that Anna was killed as well. Van Helsing in his wolf form howled and turned back then screamed while holding her. I seriously cried. Not very much but it was a sad scene. I also was upset when Velkan died. I am in love with him. As for Dracula. He was BUTT UGLY. I mean he could be seductive but he is so not my type.lol. His brides were very pretty though. I would wanna look like them when i get older. Frankenstein was pretty good too but i was never into his movies. They just didn't interest me. I love werewolves though and that is what made this movie great for me. For all you people who think this movie wasn't so great...then you are crazy. Cause this is the best movie ever created as far as scary movies go. Howl at ya later.

Posted by: Werewolf on May 10, 2004 08:37 AM

okay werewolf, you are so right! velken was so, so hot!! i fell in love the first time he came on screen. the whole ripping off the skin thing just made him sexier!!yea, so, werewolves are pretty cool, but i have to say i am more of a vampire kinda girl. ever since i saw interview with a vampire i have been practically in love with them! creepy, i know. but i can't help it! yea, well, ttyl all.

Posted by: moviechic on May 10, 2004 07:11 PM

I like vampires but werewolves are alot more fun. The skin thing was sexy But that part where Velkan climbed up the wall made him sexy too.

Posted by: Werewolf on May 11, 2004 08:21 AM

BEST MOVIE EVER......I THOUGHT THE VAMPIRES HAD IT REALLY GOING ON. I CRIEND WHEN ANA DIED. ALTHOUGH I WAS TOTALEY GETTING JELOUS WITH HER MAKING OUT WITH VAN HELSING. BUT THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO SAY....THIS IS A MOVIE EVERYONE HAS TO SEE. IHAVE SEEN IT 3 TIMES SO FAR AND I'M GOING TO GO AND SEE IT AGAIN TONIGHT!!!

Posted by: Mrs.Jackman on May 11, 2004 04:25 PM

The movie was cheesy, corny(basically you could eat it on a cracker), and I loved it, if only for Dracula. I have a huge vampire fetish(e.i., don't bleed within twenty feet of me), and he is SO hot...I can see how it would be a loveit/hateit relationship, though. If you're not into vampires, perhaps werewolves are more your thing? I like the big hairy wolf-thing, myself, but still not as much as guys with long fangs and dark hair. Anna was an airhead. "We're about to go fight Dracula. Cool."

"..."

"I've never been to the sea."

That was definately an OK THEN! moment. I liked Dracula's brides too, they were really hot, especially when they did the whole giant bat thing. Van Helsing was OK looking in a mediocore sort of way, he definately looked better as a giant dog. The whole James Bond thing annoyed me, too. Oh well, I still greatly enjoyed the movie, and I'm going to see it again and again until it comes out on DVD, when I will watch it again and again in my own home! *evil grin* I have way too much time on my hands...

Posted by: Sparks on May 12, 2004 01:23 PM

Ok I saw the film..... and yeah great Hugh gets his clothes off.... and I will buy the dvd just to see that over and over again...*evil grin*.... but the film.... well not as good as I expected... to much reliance on special effects... and not much on story line.. I know they're gonna say its tongue in cheek.... well its a big tongue with a little cheek... sorry hugh.... but this is not one of your better movies..

Posted by: CeNedra on May 14, 2004 03:18 PM

I'm disappointed that so many people didn't like the movie...i loved it...and saw it twice..so far...sometimes, the dialogue was a bit lacking and i think there wasn't enough character development (they could have gone into a bit more detail on how van helsing couldn't remember his past and why it kept it going), and also some parts were kind of cheesy, for instance the ending kind of bothered me, with the faces in the clouds, i think they could have found another way to show that the family was finally at peace in heaven because of the death of dracula. the storyline was excellent in my opinion. speaking of dracula...i love him...he was by far my favorite character. richard roxburgh did a very nice job. i really liked the concept of the werewolf ripping off his skin for the transformation. the music was also great. i'd have to say my favorite scene was dracula's masquerade ball. it was very very nicely done. hugh jackman was very good at his part, and even though kate was kind of an airhead at times, she wasn't too bad, and david wenham provided very good comic relief. there's too much to talk about in this movie, so i think i'm just gonna end it at that. i think i got my point across...it's an awesome movie.

Posted by: WickedRogue on May 15, 2004 07:23 PM

Hurray! There are other people who think Dracula is really, really HOT!! Definentally my favorite character! The cg animation is really good. The transformations were the best! Hugh as the Wolfman was very cute! *gets mauled while trying to hug big Wolf* Heheheh. I'd say it's probably the best movie of the year so far!

Posted by: Satomi on May 16, 2004 01:06 PM

Van Helsing it's an amazing film i had ever saw ,especially Count Vladislaus Dracula . in future it will be another part of this film ???????

Posted by: SaMo on May 19, 2004 04:40 AM

Draculas three wives are cool

Posted by: loveS.H.E on May 20, 2004 01:16 AM

DAMN!!! this movie was so tight. The best parts always involved the werewolfs. They looked like the best werewolfs out of all the movies ever made.

Posted by: Savage|420| on May 23, 2004 05:34 PM

What an awesome movie the computer graphice just SO amazing- just amazing. The monsters were ace, the baby vamps were a great twist and it had a hot Count dracula (oh come one, tell me you didn't fall for him at the part where they weredancing at the ball) and more lovely men in very little clothing.
The only thing I think they could have done better was the Gabriel thing. If you are going to make someone and angel or whatever "the left hand of god" means- do it properly!

Posted by: hwarang on May 25, 2004 09:03 AM

OMG....Richard Roxburgh is the hottest thing I have laid eyes on. I wanted to rape him and let Dracula have his way with me.

Posted by: Alexis on May 25, 2004 03:00 PM

I'll admit, I was a bit disappointed with this one. It was good and all...just not what I expected. Dracula was fuckin' hot. I approved of that. :)
I didn't like the way it ended, though. I mean, Anna was dropped, crushed, and smacked around throughout the movie...and the second Van Helsing jumps on her, she's dead...I just don't get it. I didn't like the whole faces in the clouds thing either.
The graphics were ok...but they were no Lord Of The Rings. The transformations were neat and everything, but Dracula's could've been better...because he was the most awesome character in the whole movie...and the hottest.
He was my favorite, hands down.
Well, despite the "flaws" in this movie, the basic concept was pretty cool. I didn't like it too much when I walked out of the theater, but as I thought about it later, I think I started loving it. It was an awesome movie ^^

Posted by: Callisto on June 1, 2004 08:52 PM

I would like to say that besides lord of the rings this is my all time favourite movie, i love the action and i think darcula is so hot!!

Posted by: Aimee on June 1, 2004 11:26 PM

OMG!!! how gorgeous is dracula.... id certainly let him bite me

Posted by: sarah on June 2, 2004 07:40 AM

I didn't think Dracula was very attractive. He didn't even have a nice hairstyle. I'm sorry all you Dracula fans but the Wolf Man beats em all. I may be weird for saying this but I would want to get with the werewolves. They are just so F*%(#&@ hot. The Van Helsing version made me think "OH BABY!" The black fur *drools*. If you people like vampires I just don't get it. Werewolves are much more fun...and still very sexy *drools again*. Nothin beats em and I think you all should like werewolves and respect them...*drools again*. Sorry if I creep you people out. But Van Helsing and Velkan are hot in human form and Wolf form.

I love this movie, definately on my top 5 list...I love it...sigh...Hugh Jackman is so sexiful, teeheehee. I love him and he played Helsing VERY well, I dont know if anyone else noticed...(i was told I was looking for it) I dont know if you all noticed but in the end when Anna died Hughs a** showed...teeheehee....but yeah, I never expected him to become a werewolf, but hey at least he was a sexi one. I didnt think Anna should have died either...but hey, at least she was happy.

Sparks...

I laughed some when I read your comments. Agree 150%. "never been to the sea"? I'm sorry, did the writer have a momentary lapse that compelled him to aim for the "lamest line in the movie" award? I had to control the urge to shout out "WTF" since it was a VERY conservative audience.

Aah...and Draculia was the ONLY reason i saw that movie more than once. He was like the bonus cherry you didnt expect to find (i had originally gone for wolverine). Mm mm good. *smack*

Underworld was WAY better...

Van Helsing is the most awesome film ever apart from The Lord of the Rings, and I must say this, Dracula is so f***** AMAZING, FABULOUS, AWESOME, CUTE, LOVELY, SEXY, HOT! I don't know what else 2 say. He's d Best! ppl who don't like him are totally out of their minds!! He's the most Hottest of the movie and he's the only reason why i watched this film so many times already! My friends think I'm crazy when I tell them he is absobloodylutly hot, they tell he's old!!! I feel like I want to bite their head off!!

Vampires r awesome creatures!!! They're d ones i like most. You'll think i am mad too but i would be in seventh heaven if Dracula would exist konw and would come and bite me to make me 1 of his bride's :P God, thats awesome!!! I imagine it everyday. BTW, Aubrey Reimann was right. they shoud include more pics of Dracula. The only real pic of the Dracula which i really like is him with his brides!!! Actually, pics with Dracula present are always thrilling! Hugh Jackman was awesome too. His WereWolf scene was amazing. He did a real great job, bet it was tough work. Richard Roxburgh was fabulous 2, it's all his merit if we love Dracula so much! RICHARD ROXBURGH, I LOVE YOU AND 10Q FOR EVERYTHING!!!!!

Postings on this topic long ago left the realm of discussion and have become little more than a 'me too' love fest. I am therefore closing the topic to any future posting.
