Lord of the Rings Marathon

[Movie News]

lotr_rotk_lair.JPG

Can't get enough Lord of the Rings? Well here is some news that should get you licking your chops. How does a theatrical run of the extended version of Fellowship of the Ring, followed by the extended version of The Two Towers and culminating in a midnight screening of the brand new Return of the King strike you? Ok, wipe your chin and read the article on www.theonering.net for details.

Starting the week of Dec. 5, the extended DVD cut of "Fellowship of the Ring" will be released in some 100 or so theaters in the U.S. and in 20 theaters in Canada.

Then, the week of Dec. 12, sequel "Two Towers" will unspool, just a month after having premiered on DVD, leading up to a worldwide Dec. 16 daylong marathon, during which all three films will be shown back-to-back. Exhibit guidelines call for a 3 p.m. showing of "Fellowship" followed by a 7 p.m. screening of "Two Towers" and then an 11 p.m. screening of "Return of the King," which will carry over into Dec. 17 -- the day of its global release.

;)

Posted by: some1 on September 11, 2003 08:07 PM

In what theatres will this marathon be playing?

Posted by: David Prochazka on September 14, 2003 06:11 PM

That is the question we all want to know. The list has not been announced, it is probably still being negotiated. I expect to hear a list a week or two before the show. Stay tuned...

Posted by: Leopoldo on September 15, 2003 07:07 PM

when do the tickets go on sale, ive been to so many places looking for the marathon showing but i cant find anything for it

Posted by: ME on September 24, 2003 05:52 PM

why doesnt someone post where this is happening and when and where we cna get tickets cause i think thats what everyone really wants to know right.... =)

Posted by: kristen on September 27, 2003 09:28 PM

That would be because
A: The locations have not been decided or announced yet and
B: The tickets are not available yet.
If you really want to attend keep checking into www.theonering.net for news. I will also post on Geekroar.com when anything new is announced.

Posted by: Leopoldo on September 27, 2003 11:14 PM

Does anyone know if this will be happening in Canda?

Posted by: Amanya on September 28, 2003 07:14 PM

just to make it easier to find, what section on theonering.net can i find the stuff about the marathon?

Posted by: ME on September 29, 2003 03:21 PM

Unfortuatly they do not havfe any specific section. The best you can do really is to check in on the site from time to time.

Posted by: Leopoldo on September 29, 2003 07:49 PM

Actually, there IS now a spot on the official website-- http://www.lordoftherings.net/trilogy/trilogy_under.html (I know, I know, wierd address), and I have it on good authority (i.e. official mailings) that tickets will be available on October 9th (really soon!). I have not yet heard where one can get them, but I would assume Fandango.com and/or participating theatres, and also off the official website. That's all I know for now... I'm still calling my theater 5 times a day to see if they're showing it, and still getting a non-commital "probably..." darn Carmike...

Posted by: Godzillar the Saviour on September 30, 2003 04:56 PM

AHHH! ive GOT to get me some of those tickets for the marathon! if anyone knows anything about where it will be playing, or how to get tickets.. PLZ RESPOND!!! *preferably playing in Phoenix, Arizona...* ;)

Posted by: heather on September 30, 2003 05:58 PM

OH, Please tell me when and where.... I am there and will still want more !
And I wonder, will Peter Jackson soon start filming the HOBBIT ?????? :-)

Posted by: Dee10245 on October 1, 2003 09:00 AM

Jackson's next is a remake of King Kong. He has expressed an interest in The Hobbit though.

Film Roar: LOTR Marathon Theaters Announced

Posted by: Leopoldo on October 2, 2003 08:35 PM

What about the UK? Where will the marathon be showing here?

Posted by: Rebecca Pinnington on October 6, 2003 06:31 AM

I live in Canada & I just wanted to know in witch movie theaters in Canada will it play ?

Posted by: Pat on October 6, 2003 10:32 AM

The special Trilogy screening has only been announced for the USA. I read an article that suggested New Zealand might also get the show, but have seen no report to suggest it will show in either Canada or the UK.

Posted by: Leopoldo on October 6, 2003 03:22 PM

Hi There LOTR Lovers:)

Just in case you posters dont already have the info you want: Go to my URL I posted for list of theaters, tickets go on sale on Thursday, Oct 9th, 03..(check your theaters on that day or go online at any movie tickets sites)..(dont know the cost yet, but will most likely be at LEAST $21.00 (US Dollars).

Hope this info helps!

Posted by: shannon on November 7, 2003 03:52 PM

If you read the whole page, or the update made at:

http://www.geekroar.com/film/archives/000411.php

you will see that it will be show in Albuquerque
NM, Albuquerque Century Theatres Rio 24

If you read the later post at
http://www.geekroar.com/film/archives/000414.php

you will also see that tickets sold out long time ago.

Posted by: Leopoldo on November 10, 2003 05:33 AM

That is so unfair!! Tolkien wrote LOTR just around the corner from my local cinema in Oxford and we don't get the extended screenings!! pah.
Oxford and New Zealand should be included too.

I AM REALLY LOOKING FOR TICKETS TO THE MARATHON FOR LORD OF THE RINGS. I LIVE IN THE DETROIT, MI AREA. I KNEW ABOUT THE MARATHON BACK IN LATE JULY, AND FIGURED I WOULD BE SAFE TO GET TICKETS IF I CHECKED BACK IN A COUPLE OF MONTHS. UNLUCKY FOR ME, I CHECKED TO LATE AND MISSED THE ONLY 4 THEATERS THAT WOULD BE SHOWING THE MARATHON BY A COUPLE OF DAYS. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR 2 TICKETS FOR WEEKS NOW, AND HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIND ANY IN MI. THE CLOSEST IS IN OHIO GOING FOR $400 ON E-BAY, AND I'M NOT THAT DESPERATE. IF ANYONE KNOWS WHERE OR THROUGH WHO I CAN GET 2 TICKETS, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. WOULD BE WILLING TO PAY ABOUT $100 FOR THE 2 OF THEM. THANKS.

Posted by: DOUG on November 21, 2003 06:24 PM

OK guys, this is a film discussion blog, not a sales site. If you want to buy tickets go to Ebay, this is not the place for buy and sell.
