Knick Knack (1989)
[4 - Good]Finding Nemo (2003) opens with a freshly re-rendered shot animation, Knick Knack (1989), one of my childhood favorites. I loved seeing Knick Knack now just as much as I did fourteen years ago. I do have a bone to pick though: Why, oh why did they deflate the mermaid? I distinctly remember the mermaid figurine at the end of Knick Knack having what can only be described as huge knockers. It looks like the PC Police raided Pixar and forced breast reduction surgery on what was a great joke.
The friend I saw the movie with had not seen the original short and I am not sure she believed me when I told her the end had been re-rendered. I will have to find a copy of the original short to prove my point.
You know thats the first thing i said when i saw the short on the big screen "what the heck happend to her guns". The story still worked but it lost that impact of mr. knick knack wanting to get out so damn bad.
You should be able to find the original on kazaa, or even the pixar website along with other great ani shorts. Check out the one with the annoying birds on a wire, i forgot the name, its my favourite thou.
I did some searching for Knick Knack pictures and found pics of our hero, but none of the mermaid.
The birds on a wire movie is For the Birds and is incredibly well made.

Posted by: vanessa on July 17, 2003 02:12 PMThe original "unedited" or "directors cut" non-rerendered version of Knick Knack is available on the Deluxe Toy Story Laserdisc Box Set which also includes other Pixar shorts pre-Geri's Game.

Posted by: joe on November 16, 2003 07:18 PMHey, I am also looking for this song but haven't found it yet. All I know is that it's by Bobby McFerrin. Thats about it. If anyone has the file, be kind and share it! I agree, it's an awesome song. :)
Posted by: dan on November 17, 2003 10:56 PMdoes anyone have, or know where i can find the backing theme by bobby mcferrin that was in knick knack??
Posted by: dave on November 27, 2003 02:53 PMIn "Toy Story 2" there is a scene where the toys are channel surfing. The original mermaid is in there, twice, and there are some other still shots. My three -year old son has seen most of the Pixar movies about 50 times, and has a good eye - he saw the characters from Knick Knack as well as Tin Toy as they flicked by. I'm glad he didn't ask about the breast anomaly though, which surprised me too; I'd only seen the toned-down version before.
Posted by: Steve on December 12, 2003 01:46 PMhey guys! the backing theme isn't out yet. It is also called knick knack and will be released on a DVD by Bobby McFerrin this year...
bai
KNICK KNACK RULEZZZ!!! Me and my friends saw it and we absolutly loved it!!! It's so funny! I couldn't get enough of it, so now I have it on my own computer!! It's a 10+ for me!
Posted by: Inge on December 14, 2003 12:45 PMHey, in reference to Steve's comment about the mermaid being in Toy Story 2, here's another cool one. Watch carefully in Monsters Inc., at the end of the movie, when Sully is in Boo's room getting ready to say goodbye to her before the door gets shredded, she starts giving him a toys from all over her room. If you watch carefully, one of the toys she hands to him is Nemo, or Marlin for that matter. Anyways, a clown fish. Check it out!
Posted by: dan on December 16, 2003 11:07 AMDid anyone ever find the music? I love it, and I would really like to have it!
Thanks,
Jess
Posted by: Jester on February 25, 2004 11:09 AMThe music is by Bobby McFerrin. I am pretty sure it was made for the short and has not been released on CD.
Posted by: Leopoldo on February 25, 2004 11:32 AMThe question is always the same: did anyone ever find the marvellous Bobby Mc Ferrin's rap on cd?
Thanks
Giovanni
Posted by: Giovanni on April 9, 2004 04:11 AMI too think the song is great, does it have a name?

Posted by: Kev on May 16, 2004 11:48 PMI've enjoyed Knick Knack since I got it with Morpheus some years ago. I've looked for the song since and have not been able to find it. It is an awesome tune and a lovely video especially made for geeks. I've always disliked the fact that in the web version of this Pixar short the song was cut abruptly at the end.
Posted by: Alex on July 6, 2004 01:30 AMBTW, this link is cool but the song isn't "Don't Worry, Be Happy."

I love knick knack and also snickers!!!
For the birds was great too
Posted by: Fants on July 31, 2004 01:52 PMHey, I heard the song on a restaurant some weeks ago, now that i know everyone is looking for it, i'll try to find where do they got that song and let you know.
Lidia
I also love the knick knack song! The "blah, blah" stuff at the end is funny. Found this site by doing Bobby McFerrin research, school thing. Thought I would express my thoughts! I have only seen the tame breasts, but now I know more and I will try to look for original photos! :)
Posted by: Knick-Knack Girl on March 12, 2005 02:14 PMI have the original movie (let me know if you want it, surf to my webpage and leave a message) and I ripped the audio so I got the song on mp3. Don't get me wrong, it's the sound of the movie, so all the sound-effects are on it too.
It rocks :)
