TNG: Skin of Evil
[Trek Talk]What a sad way to kill a main character. The death of Tasha Yar in TNG: Skin of Evil came as a surprise and left me deflated when I first saw the episode. Until this day I had always thought it pretentious to always have to kill a main character in some incredible noble fashion (giving their life for everyone else, dying in a huge battle, etc.) The empty and meaningless death of Tasha made me change my mind about that. She deserved better.
On another note, I want to know who manged to convince Frakes that it was a good idea to jump into a tub full of ink!
Posted by Leopoldo at August 6, 2003 08:54 AM | TrackBackI can't decide whether to like or hate this one ... I always did have trouble being afraid of oil slicks and trashbags though. (pity the por actor who played Armus). Though I did have an interesting thought occur to me last time i saw it. When Armus tells the story of how he was created (basically he's the castoff crud of a beautiful race, they decided to leave behind all evil and ugliness, creaing him) for some reason I thought of the Kelvans in the Original series episode 'By Any Other Name' (also known as the crew-gets-reduced-to-styrofoam-cubes one). The Kelvans are beautiful, advanced, and in pursuit of higher knowledge, so they fit Armus' description. Am I crazy?
Oh, and at least the ink improved Riker a little ...
Posted by: dyingofluv on September 4, 2003 10:07 AMThe Kelvans aren't perfect, though, and they're not all beautiful. Mostly just Kelinda, who was one of the more interesting Original Series women guest stars.

The final scene is the best, simple and remarkable, not overdone. Each and every cast member, without dialogue, did a wonderful job in that last goodbye.
