Ice Age (2002)
[4 - Good]Well written, acted and animated, Ice Age (2002) is entertaining for adults and kids alike. All of the voice talent did a superb job in acting out the lines for their characters, special kudos go out to John Leguizamo for his hilarious interpretation of Sid the Sloth. While the movie relies on some potty humor the writing and the jokes are generally top quality and made to appeal to most any audience.
I was highly impressed with the art direction and quality that Blue Sky Studios (best known for the short movie Bunny (1998)) gave to the characters. Putting fur on a CG character as once considered project suicide because of the difficulty and computational cost of rendering hair. Blue Sky not only modeled interesting to look at and expressive fur characters but they did what a good animation house knows how to do; they put CHARACTER into the characters. Each creature encountered in Ice Age has a well-defined and interesting personality. The primary characters deliver superb performances, showing a solid range of emotion through their mouths, eyes and facial features. The world they live in is lush and rich with color and texture. I enjoyed the consistent and beautiful art design present throughout the feature.
Kudos go out to the writers of Ice Age for a funny movie, to the voice talent for amusing characters, to the animators for top notch character animation and to the technical directors and crew at Blue Sky for pulling this movie off. You should see Ice Age when you have a chance. I am willing to bet you will be very entertained.

This movie didn't do much for me - the plot was negligible and while the characters were well-acted, the script was relatively uninteresting. The best thing about this movie were the bits with the ratty squirrel - I think they could just have made a movie about him, and left out the rest ...
Posted by: heathcliffe on September 22, 2003 06:51 AMi thought this movie was very imaginative but it was unrealistic. Even so i thought it was cute, funny, and sad at the same time.My favorite character is Diego who is a mean guy in the beginning but turns kind-hearted and risks his life to save Manny and the others.
Posted by: kai on November 14, 2003 11:09 AMIt's animation, who cares if it's unrealisitic? Ice Age is one of those movies that I can watch again and again, and still laugh throughout the whole movie, just as I laugh every time I watch Fight Club. Each of the characters have their own personalities and sense of humour, which makes a difference from films where all the characters seem to have the same sort of humour as the writer. Excellent film for adults and children.
Posted by: abbi on May 7, 2004 06:55 PMI completely agree. Each character gives out their own personality. Sid is funny and stupid. Manny is kinda depressed but good-hearted. And then Diego is a mean guy but would give anything for a friend. Diego is the best out of em all. And even the baby started to realized that. I thought it was cute when the baby walked up to Diego and when the baby did the "Where's the baby" imitation of Diego.

Posted by: daniella on March 13, 2005 11:22 AM"Ice Age" is a wonderful film! Great scene! The cartoon effect is lifelike.
The elephant was so courage that dashed ahead regardless of its safety to save the tiger. That was like human.
