In the Bedroom (2003)
[3 - Enjoyed it]I can see why In the Bedroom (2001) received the acclaim it did. The writing and directing were both solid and the acting top notch. The movie reminded me of a good stage play. The story is told more by the subtle and fine acting of Sissy Spacek and Tom Wilkinson than by exaggerated dramatics.
I probably did not enjoy In The Bedroom as much as most people did (at least as much as people seemed to have if you believe all the rave reviews and party chatter it received). I was very glad to have seen it, but as I watched it there was an underlying feeling that I was going to see this movie through more out of obligation than because I was entertained. One thing I was not ready for was how subtlety In The Bedroom managed to crawl under my skin. The day after watching it the impact of the trauma felt by the characters was still disturbing me.
