Paris Texas (1984)

[3 - Enjoyed it]

Paris, Texas (1984) is another one of those films that I did not remember having seen before until well into the movie. The difference here is that this is a pretty good movie. Wim Wenders(Faraway, So Close! (1993), Wings of Desire (1987), Until the End of the World (1991), Buena Vista Social Club (1999)) tells the tale of a man who wonders in off the dessert who seems to have no memory of who he is or why he is out there. He is found by his brother who introduces him to the lost son he has been raising in the man's absence. The rest of the movie is about this man slowly trying to come to terms with his past and trying to face his present.

The movie takes its time uncovering the story. It is almost as if we are discovering what has happened and what will happen as our protagonist does. The characters all seem as honest and imperfect as real people are, which is realized by good directing by Wenders and great acting by Harry Dean Stanton, Nastassja Kinski and Dean Stockwell. Paris, Texas is slow and depressing but worth watching.
