Gates McFadden is a Hottie

[Trek Talk]

Gates_headshot.jpg

I am on disc four of season seven of Star Trek: The Next Generation. I just passed the episode Attached (where Picard is forced to admit his love for Dr. Crusher) and am now on the episode Homebound. I must say that at age 52 (born in '49 she must have been 52 by the time they filmed season 7 in 1993) Gates McFadden is deliciously sexy. She shows grace, sophistication, has a dancer's body (McFadden is a dancer and choreographer) and is enchantingly beautiful.

It needs to be said: Gates McFadden is a hottie!

I can second that emotion. Of course, I've got a major thing for redheads. Kirk may have discovered all the hotties week in and week out, but between Dr. Crusher and the curves of Troi, we weren't too lacking.

She actually got better looking as the show went along, too, and she got rid of the ugly hair and makeup from the early days. Same with Troi.

Is Gates a natural redhead? Does it matter?

Troi I never cared for. Don't know why. I was a lot more at ease with her during the last couple of seasons when Marina (along with the other actors) was visibly more comfortable with her character.

I agree that Gates looked better as the show progressed. I think a lot of that was due to the maturity of the character. Dr. Crusher no longer had to be the rabid "will someone please think about the children" caretaker and was allowed to be a sophisticated and sensual human being in the latter seasons.

Fun fact: You know that episode where Beverly teaches Data to tap dance? Gates is a decent dancer and choreographer in her own right. If you can lay hands on the "Labyrinth" DVD, take a look at the making-of documentary. There she is, choreographing that amazing ballroom sequence!

Hey Thanks TW :-) It is very good to know that I am not the only one that reads the site ;-) I originally had a 'contact me here' link on the site but it got picked up by spiders who subscribed me to SPAM lists (*sigh* when will the madness end?) so I replaced them with generic 'wemaster@geekroar.com' links.

As I understand it, Gates McFadden is indeed a natural redhead ... I just don't see how she could pull off that color unnaturally and get away with it ... besides which her features are clearly Celtic/Irish/wotever, which increases the likelihood. Although first season, for some incomprehensible reason, some genius decided she would look better as a *Fake* redhead even though she was already one. What were they thinking??? You can so clearly see the difference between first and third season - one's her real color, the other is not.

I think that Gates did not often get to display her real potential in this series till later on. I thought 'Remember Me' was a spectacular example of what she can do when the writers give her freedom. Especially the scenes where she's completely alone ... she carries them superbly.

Incidentally, Leopoldo, it'd be great to see forums for the other regs/semi-regs of the series.

Huh.. that is a good idea. I made the post on McFadden because I was inspired to, I had not been inspired to talk about other cast members, but when I think about it I probably have enough to say to warrant some posts. Thanks for the idea :-)

Gates was the better of the Troi/Crusher characters on ST TNG by far. While Guinan may have been my favorite character, Crusher was the Apple of my eye. Words like enchanting, lithe, exhuberant, and downright sensuous come to mind. I always wanted to, and still want to, work as a Muppetier. Boy what a bonus it would have been to work with a woman of such indigenous quality.

I loved the star trek series from the first series. But Gates made the next generation something sexy and good to watch. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with being a doctor and sexy at the same time. I think she is the top shelf, the cat's meow, the frosting on the cake! I am a star trek fan forever now!

Gates McFadden was always my favorite. She is beautiful and completely level headed. I had the opportunity to meet her a few years ago and she blew me away. Marina is sorta aloof in appearences where as Gates is humble and honest. Truly remarkable

"born in '49 she must have been 52 by the time they filmed season 7 in 1993"

Not if you're using base-10 arithmetic... I'm thinking she was 43 or 44, depending on her birthday? :)

You made me nervous for a moment, since I was born in 1950... for a moment I was afraid I was 10 years than I'd thought.

Oh you earthlings with your five digits on each appendage and your decimal arithmetic. When will you realize that the dodadecimail system is much superior?

From what I heard, Gates was born in '53. I might be wrong but I seen it in an interview with her. Anywhoo, Gates McFadden is my favorite actress in ST:TNG. I like Mirina and all but I think with her wearing what she wore most of the time, it didn't leave anything to the imagination like Gates' big over-coat she wore half of the time. Gates is truly beautiful and I didnt know she wore a wig for the first part of the series! I noiticed that her hair color changed a couple times and all but wow!! Why?? Oh well, Gates is a wonderful person and actress all together. She gets sexier every year!!

Gates McFadden is so beautiful. Really a great woman to see. On a scale of one to ten, she has to be a 9.

I have to agree that Gates is my fav character of all time in the TNG Star Trek series. She is very modest and gentle, yet we see glimpses of her more sensual sides at times, which add to my enlightment of the series. She is hot!
