Egyptian Censors ban Matrix Reloaded
[Film Discussion]An article on msnbc.com explains why Egypt has banned 'The Matrix Reloaded'. Here is an excerpt from the article:
Islam rejects presenting God in human form, and the movie shows a character who portrays the creator carrying on an extended conversation with the star of the movie.Posted by Leopoldo at June 12, 2003 02:05 PM | TrackBackTherefore, the creator is given human characteristics, if only a voice, he said.
Most (censors) are of the opinion they don't want to allow the kind of movie which touches on creator and creation. They felt that a movie portraying God in human form or voice would be destructive to moviegoers.
Although he is personally against banning the movie, Kassem says the vast majority of viewers are uneducated people who uncritically accept what they see.
peace Be Upon he with whom Allah Please
First of all we must understand one thing that the modern western civilization has been the result of a long stuggle right from the 11 century Crusades till 17 th century French Revolution. Islamic Spain instilled the concepts of Freedom, Equality and Fraternity into European midset but there things went wrong when these three concepts were taken in their absolute meaning and were applied on the society. The Jewish Scholars played an active role in this philosophical and political transformation. Alongside the fraternal secret society of Freemasons that apparently broke away from Christianity but has distorted jewish base mixing Ancient Egyptian rites and concepts with the jewish concepts of Messiah and King. Now thse things travelled to where the Jewish activities went. United States has the second largest Jewish population on Earth and they are holding influential positions in Economic and Entertainment spheres. So these blend of evil concepts are also projected in the movies. The main crux of all this is
1) Arrogance in face of Allah
2) Driving evila and Satanic forces to achieve the Divine Kingdom and pave the way for the coming of Messiah.
3) They know Allah is not on their side so they rely on the evil forces to achieve their aims.
Introduction of the concepts like Zion in the movies seems to be understood keeping in view the influence of Zionism in the US.
Zionists want a mythical supremacyover all other races while keeping the religoius affiliation intact. It is not for the first time americans are being spoon fed with thse concepts. These movies are one of the series of spoon feeding and psycological brainwashing and exploitation of human imagination conducted by teh Zionist influeced entertainment industry. The Holy Koran affirms:" They follow their plan and Allah conducts his"
on other place;"They want to extinguish thelight from Allah, but Allah will certainly overwhelm his Light".
The light of truth will prevail over these camoflaugerd and covert actions by the Zionist and Jewish intelligestia.
May Allah bless the people on this Earth and expose the evil they have in their minds and behind the scenes.
Posted by: Zain on July 21, 2005 04:02 AMWell, everyone should accept that muslims are narrow-minded.
Zion does not refer to Zionism(there is a city in China named Xion which does not mean that they support Zionism).
And all those asses up there, nowhere in the trilogy the name or word 'allah' is mentioned and there is no reference to islam in the trilogy.
The movies have references from Hinduism, Buddism and Christianity and the names are taken from mythologies of Greek, Jewish and Hindu. The Wachowski's have themselves said that the movies were based on the holy book of the hindus.
So this might be why they banned the movie....lol....
Oh please. 2 Jewish guys making a movie and calling the last refuge of humanity Zion, is no coincidence. That makes the inhabits of Zion, Zionists, correct?
I dont blame them for banning it, but at least they should be honest about it, its a Jewish made movie that symbolizes Israel's struggle.
I'm watching the movie right now and couldn't help but listen to Mopheous' little speech to the Zionists and how closely it resembles something Ariel Sharon would say.
This reminds of The Lord Of The Rings. Another Jewish made racist film.

please i wanna participate in this issue with my opinion ...
I agree with u that the name Zion was with bad signal for muslims ... but this name must not take us away from the primary aim of Wachowski brothers .
surely they must be affected by their religional backgrounds which leaded them to choose this name , but in the end they wanted to send message against the new civilization , against globulization and the more and more controlling that limits the human creativity ... teh three movies were not against islam as some ppl here said ... i,m Arabian and Muslim and i hasn,t noticed in the thousand times i watched the movies in , that the Architect is the God .
it is so clear that teh Architect represents the upper authorities of human mind that wanna control anything including the Humans and Mankind ... if we wanna talk about god and religion and spirtual side of life ..then we can look towards teh Oracle ...
in no time Islam talks about God that he wanna control the world and he is against teh humankind .. he is always the mercifull ... so how can those stupid minds thought that Architect is the God ...
this Explanation of the Movies is really Bullshit and unreal ...
I think Wachowski brothers send so important message in the movies that muslims must be the first supporters of .
besides of that .. i hasn,t seen any bad guy called Allah ... can u lead me to him ... where has he appeared ??
Peace for all
Posted by: chaos on October 12, 2004 10:48 AMDisturbing is the word that comes to my mind when I read all these pro-ban posts. The idea of banning something that is considered a piece of art is like putting a big lock on your brain and putting it in a dark refrigerator.
One should be worried about the reality, that Israel as we speak is defying all international laws and killing innocent people while Egypt is only trying to ban a movie with the word Zion in it. Hellooooooooo. Wake up so called Muslims and tackle real issues.
Love, peace, courage, moral values, honesty, fairness, strength, equality and kindness that is what we need to focus on as Muslims!!!
Lord n Master
Foamy
This movie should have been banned in America for being a terrible movie. And "Revolutions"? What were these two qifuts thinking about? The original was a great original thought, the 2nd and third were two of the worst movies in history!
I hope they don't make more.
As for Zion, it was plain to see that these two qifuts wanted to incorporate their beliefs into this movie. Too bad I didn't know about it before because I would have never watched the first one.
If the people won't like the movie because it is objectionable to their views then they won't go see it. To ban it is to hide the people away from the idea that anything can go against their religion, that it is a possibility to portray, insult or question a deity.
Posted by: NB on April 17, 2004 07:37 PMThe question here:
- why the bad guy should be referring to islamic word?.
I think you know the answer. it is the manner of west culture these days. hating islam and muslims for nothing but for Mr.Bush's elections :)
Why are you interested in banning such movies as it is the end of the world !!!
Simply, this movie is discussing something that is unacceptable in Islam religion and Egyptian people won't accept what they see on the screen. So, it is better not wasting their time with something they won't like!!.. I think their time worth more than wasting watching anti-islam movie.
Well, Im doing a report on all this, and you guys really, really help! =)
I think the Egyptian censors banning the movie was a pretty good idea. Its not like the people in Egypt (Egyptians?) don't have freedom of speech or press because they could just buy it on DVD or download it. Banning the movie wouldn't really hurt anyone would it?
Posted by: Leeoni on March 13, 2004 04:18 PMpeople who think that banning matrix reloaded in Egypt was a wrong idea are so god damned wrong ; although i know that th eperson who want to watch it will be able to get it on a vcd or dvd ; but the concept is that this movie dicusses an idea that Islam has made it clear that it is Haram which is putting allah in the shape of a person who has all god's powers....
Posted by: salma raouf on January 5, 2004 03:53 AMEgyptian authorities are so concerned with the content of any movie played in theaters in Egypt, this applies to Egyptian movies as well as American movies, however in case of Egyptian movies it starts before shooting the movie, if they don't like it (i.e. it implies something"BAD") it has to be changed in order for this film to see the light, it's the mentality of being able to judge what's good for the public and what's not. It will really depend on the mood of the censor worker whether or not this film will show, for example when Devil's Advocate came out they only took out the scenes with nudity and sexuality, but after a couple of weeks they started hearing comments about a speech in the second half of the movie by Al Pacino (the Devil) describing God and expressing his opinion of Him, they took the movie out of theaters and video clubs and ever since they were very careful to what they see, what they here and obviously now to what it might mean!
I totally disagree with that, freedom of speech means that the movie maker has the right to say whatever (and we pay to hear or see) and we (the public) reserve the right to agree or disagree, but in case of censorship, we're denied that right in a stupid manner, as if we can not decide for ourselves what's good and what's bad, I despise this arrogant idea of a superior human being who watches a movie and think should I allow "the others" to see it or would it confuse them??!!
Also the fact that Internet and Satellite TV are almost in many houses in Egypt now ridicules this job even more, it means that only rich people have the right to see and hear, but poor people are deprived from deciding their own benefit, does this sound right?
I think Neo can sum this up very well, BULLSHIT!
Posted by: Miles Undwood on September 15, 2003 02:51 PMWell,
I'm in Egypt. Sure, it's banned, but anybody who wants to watch it will download it sooner or later. That's not the point.
As to the reasons - well, the theological/cosmogenical thing might be an issue, but there are others - such as 1) The Zion thing - for anybody who considers that paranoid or over-reactive - well - why the F*@! didn't they just call the city of men Utopia? Or anything else? Nope. Zion it is, and Zionism is not something you want associated with your movie unless you MEAN something by it.
And, more dangerously, maybe...
2) The presence of a character - one of the 'bad' guys in the script - called 'Allah' - if you thought the Zion referrence was an accident - then what the hell are the Wachowski brothers thinking? Sure - by the time they went to SHOOT, they had changed that particular name...
But what was it doing there in the first place?
Why drum up needless trouble?
Did they HAVE to call it Zion?
Did they HAVE to call a bad guy 'Allah' ?
I'm starting to hate BOTH sides...the Wachowski brothers AND the Egyptian censors.
One is paranoid, and the other is irresponsible.
Ungh.
Posted by: Omar Kamel on July 19, 2003 07:21 PMSeems the whole nation are a bunch of dumb asses, or I'm being a bit strick on that one. We all know that critics are useless, give a realy good movie a bad rating and vice versa. Just n pity to all the good fellows up in Egypt that cant watch it now. Time to visit South Africa mates, land of milk honey and legal Matrix movies :)
Posted by: Froggy on June 26, 2003 04:32 AMI think its all a pathetic cover up really. The Egyptians don't like the word Zion in there... or else it becomes "the will of all men trying so save the (wait for it...) Zionists" and well.. how could a country like Egypt even consider allowing a movie about Zionism in!!
The Architect
(aka Computer program, not god - but easily confused by some with lesser minds)
The Egyptian sensors seem to be saying that their people can't see it because they are stupid. How sad. The Architect was never meant to be God. Maybe the sensors are the ones who are too stupid to understand the movie.
I bet the Wachowski brothers gonna say, "OOOOH Wow! we got banned ... for philosophy no less. COOL!"
