G.I. Jane (1997)

[3 - Enjoyed it]

Bad reviews and a dislike of Demi Moore kept me from watching G.I. Jane (1997) when it was released. I chalked this one up to "will probably never see." Then I read a fascinating interview with Viggo Mortensen that mentioned his role as a Navy Seal training officer in this movie. The interview and the description of his role piqued my interest. A later conversation with a friend who exalted Viggo's performance made me want to go back and give G.I. Jane a try. I am glad at my change of heart, as I found the movie well made and quite interesting.

In G.I. Jane, Moore plays Lt. Jordan, a navy technician who is the first woman accepted into the elite and extreme Navy SEAL Combined Reconnaissance Team training camp, complete with the infamous "hell week" of abusive exercises and sleep deprivation. As expected, every male in her path seems to be intent on seeing her fail. Viggo's job as Master Chief is to be as sadistic as he can to all the recruits, though he seems to reserve a special "hard love" for Jordan. Between applications of savage pain, Viggo lets escape the occasional twinkle in his eye as he gazes on her tank-topped and muscle-ripped body. Contrived and weak as the plot seems, strong acting and decent writing makes G. I. Jane an interesting movie.

I still dislike Demi Moore, though my respect for her as an actress has been knocked up a notch with this movie. Viggo Mortensen, on the other hand, has moved from "am impressed with" to "am very impressed with". His performance as the steel-eyed Master Chief alone makes G. I. Jane worth renting -- or at least checking out of the local library.

How weight demi moore in g i jane? She's very muscular. Someone should try to convince her to become a top bodybuilder.

Leave Viggo alone. I believe he is an artist who cares nothing about being a star or a sex symbol. After the LOTR he will probably find little peace. He will never truly be able to enjoy the true art in acting due to a public that wants to invade and intrude on every corner of a gifted mind. Enjoy what art he has chosen to share with the public, but leave the artist in peace. If we don't, then we will likely lose him and all he has to offer.

No doubt, as bodybuilder demi would become beefy and sexy and easily she could compete at about 170 lbs dry.
