May whatever god you believe in...
[Film Discussion]If you know me, you know I am partial to including movie quotes in my everyday speech. Some are favorites of mine:
"What would you do with a brain if you had one?": Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz (1939)
Others are appropriate to the moment:
"As you Wish": Vader from Return of the Jedi (1983)
And some are both:
"let me 'splain no there is too much. Let me sum up.": Inigo from The Princess Bride (1987).
At a work meeting I was recently able to use one quote that was quite appropriate the moment: "May whatever god you believe in, have mercy upon your soul". Only problem was that I had no recollection to the source of the quote. I could see a judge standing over prisoners and saying this line. I had the idea that it might be a science fiction movie, but for the life of me I could not remember which one. The memory lapse drove me nuts... for days I repeated the line to myself trying to figure out but never remembering the source. I searched and searched until I finally decided to give up and consult The Orb (another name for The Internet). The Orb knows all and did not fail me in my quest.
Do you know this line? Do you remember where it comes from? If you need a hint click on the link above to hear a sound bite of the line being used. For any that do not remember I will post the answer here in a few days.
Posted by Leopoldo at January 15, 2003 07:33 AM | TrackBackI hate the 'what-the-heck-IS-that-quote' syndrome ... I get it all the time, as my sister and I are capable of carrying on entire conversations comprised by quotes, but we can't always remember where a given line is from. And this 'May whatever god you believe in...' thing has had me going for months now. Are you EVER going to post the answer???
Posted by: heathcliffe on September 22, 2003 06:59 AMOh wow, I never did post the answer did I? The quote is from 'Encouter at Farpoint', the first STTNG episode
