Trying to review all films I watch in 2003

[Film Discussion]

I spent New Years of 1998/1999 at a party at a friend's house. We watched two movies over New Years Eve and a third on New Years day. It was that morning that the idea occurred to me to try and track all the movies I watched during the year (the list is posted as 205 movies in 365 days). I bought a little notepad and carried it around with me dutifully jotting down every movie I watched and then adding it to an excel spreadsheet. I kept a very loose definition of what a movie was; tracking short films as independent entries. The exercise was incredibly interesting. I learned a lot about myself and what I like. One of the most interesting things to notice was movies that I would see multiple times a year (such as 'The Matrix' which I watched four times). During the first week of 2003 and with a new film blog I have decided to try and take the idea to it's next logical level.

Film Talk is organized into different topics, including a set of ratings that I can use to write short reviews or thoughts about movies that I watch. The logical evolution of the list of movies I watch is to try and add a rated entry for every movie that I watch in 2003. I do not know if this is a realistic goal or not, it takes me a very long time to write an entry like this one (over twenty minutes from when I started to this sentence, you do the math) and I am really spending more time than I should on these side projects (I am working full time and in graduate school at the moment), but with some limits I would like to give it a try. Not every movie needs an entry as long and as long winded as the review I wrote for Star Trek Nemesis. I figure that if I try to at least put my thoughts on a movie down (like the short review for Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back) and limit the long winded diatribes to movies that warrant them I stand a chance at making this happen. I also want to improve my writing skills and I figure the best place to start is to practice. and what better subject to write about than my favorite past time: Watching Movies.

With four days into the New Year, four movies watched and four reviews written (I know the entry for The Big Sleep shows in 2003, but I watched it before the new year but was away from an internet connection so I could not post the review until the third) I have a pretty good start. I doubt my diet for movies will be as voracious as it was in 1999, so the number of entries should also be smaller. Here is hoping for the time, the dedication and the interest to write reviews for all the movies I watch in 2003.
