Tasty Rummor: “Disney to buy Pixar”

Here is a tasty little rummor from Yahoo! Finance:

Pixar Animation Studios, creator of “The Incredibles,” and The Walt Disney Co. are rumored to be on the verge of a deal — either a new distribution pact between the longtime partners or the possible sale of Pixar to Disney.

According to the Los Angeles Times, two sources close to the deal said ongoing talks have been turning to Disney acquiring all or part of Emeryville-based Pixar. In that case, Jobs, also CEO of Apple Computer, would become a major Disney shareholder and possibly the company’s chairman.

Lets see what happens….

I’m not sure if I should feel delighted or horrified at the prospect. I mean, if Disney gets Pixar lock-stock-and-barrel, then expect direct-to-video Incredibles sequels galore. *shudder* On the other hand… Jobs as Disney CEO? Hmm. (Unlikely though that may be, of course.)

Steve Jobs as CEO would not be that bad. The Company needs an infusion of new blood from the outside. The Company is so stale, and full of back-stabbing people all clawing their way to the top on the bodies of people they should be working with, not against. Really creative nice people litter the roads to crappy shows and lame direct-to-video sequels.

The first thing Steve Jobs should do is fire all of the middle and senior management, and make them stand in line and re-apply for all of the open positions just like they always do to the low guys on the totem pole whenever there is a regime change. Start with a clean slate. Better yet, bring in management from Pixar and let them decide who to keep.

In addition, Steve Jobs needs to completely revamp the “Inhuman” Resources department. Working for The Walt Disney Company is very similar to working for NASA in that regard. The Company used to be known as one of the best places to work in SoCal, and now, they are just another place to do time and collect the rent.

[…] It has only been two days since Steve Jobs sold Pixar to Disney and the merger is already having healthy effects. Disney, which had previously announced they were going to make “Toy Story 3″ without Pixar (read as in ‘milk the franchise for all the money they could get out of it’) has reversed itself. Disney employees working on the project were recently told that: the ‘Toy Story 3′ production will end effectively [Tuesday]. They said that sequels should only be made if there is a really great story that demands it, and should be the domain of those who created the original film. […]
