Danny McBride Confirms Underworld Sequel

According to an interview with Danny McBride at The Trades, work on the sequel to last summer’s vampire action flick Underworld (2003) is progressing.
As for the sequel, McBride confirmed that shooting will begin in the fall for a targeted 2005 release; and he also confirmed that Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman have already signed on to reprise their respective roles. McBride went on to say that he is currently preparing the outline for the second draft of the sequel and that the production team is in the middle of the development stages. “The new film will carry the story further as well as incorporate a few prequel sequences, which should be extremely cool.” He added, “Patrick Tatopoulos (the creature designer) has, par for course, created some fantastic new designs for the film. Len has been busy storyboarding and is gearing up for location scouting.”

I would love to see them bring Carrie Anne Moss (”Trinity” from The Matrix trilogy) into this movie…

There is no ‘X-rated version’. The studio released an ‘unrated’ version with additional material. All unrated means is that they did not submit it to the ratings board. Some movies do this to avoid an X rating, in this case it is a marketting gimick to try and fool ususpecting fans into thinking they are going to get something juicy. The unrated version has no nudity, extreme violence or anything else that would give it a higher rating than the theatrical release.

i thought underworld was an awesome movie …but you guys got to agree with me Beckinsale looked fuckin awesome in that movie!!! … and scott speedman… but he’s just a honey anyway!!!
i serously thought that the movie was going to be a hit after i saw the trailer … and i got to admitt i was impressed on how it turned out … i really liked when Michael was going through the werewolf change … i think that was the best transformation i have ever seen!!

I absolutely LOVED the first Underworld. I hope they don’t screw up a good thing with the sequel. Oh well I’m gonna go see it. How could someone pass up the opportunity to see another brilliant movie with fabbity fab fab music in it. Gawd for weeks after the Underworld sondtrack came out, I kept listening to Rev. 22:20 over and over and over and over…..I love that song…..I hope the sequel is just as good as the first one….if not better.

Word! Rev 22:20 is a good one. I heard somewhere that it’s gonna be a trilogy, dunno if that’s correct…we’ll live and see. Hopefully the sequel is as good as the first one was. Im guessing we’ll see more of Selene shooting bad guys away wearing that leather suit, which btw fits her like second skin.

I just saw Underworld again and each time I enjoy it more. I showed the movie to my nephew and he friggin loved it. He was on cloud nine when I told him there would be a sequel and neither of us could wait to see it!

Ive loved the movie Underwold. I Seen the movie ten times alredy. Love the cast including kate beckensale and Scott Speedman. but then every one was grate in the movie. the action sequence was outstanding it bring you right into the story and in doing so makes me wotch over and over again

A fine film mainly for Kate Beckensdales performance.. I think it worked without the sex, hope the sequel is as fresh and stylish-I`d say Micheal was lucky that Celine was there at the end to save his hairy arse though, he`d better practice his moves for when old dude mark 2 Marcus wakes up !!

Got the special edition Underworld DVD recently. It’s pretty good. Director’s cut. Haven’t had a chance to check out the special features on my disc, but I did see them on the one I rented.
My main complaint about Underworld is Viktor’s death scene. I hate the slow-mo gory “body part slides off to reveal cg blood and bones” effect a la Ghost Ship (bad movie made worse with this nasty effect). It would have been so much more tasteful if she had cut his head off at the neck or pierced him through the chest. I refuse to watch that part of the scene now. I doesn’t fit the film. It’s gross. It’s stupid. It’s cheesy. Anyone agree???
Besides, the best vampire movie of all time is Interview with the Vampire. I get tired of all of these new age vampire movies, but I’ll take what I can get. Anne Rice is the best bet (though Queen of the Damned is also quite cheesy), but read her books! Bram Stoker’s Dracula is a close second.
About Van Helsing–the only good thing about that movie was Dracula and his wives. :>

And to all of the new “goths”–welcome, but don’t do it just for the fashion. Goth is not a fad, it is a way of living, a state of mind. Just because you wear black and like Underworld does not make you goth. Goth is a rejection of the mainstream, not a way to fit in. Just wanted to make that clear.

I agree, we need female lycons - both p.c. and an extra area to use for story freshness. I also hope the next film is up to the task of exposition rather than relying on scene after scene of action. The word overkill jumps to mind.
As for “goth” being a way of life, it is based on a very strict adhearance to discipline rather than chaotic rejection of status quo. To be “goth” is to accept yourself at where you are and who you are much like Lucian. One also accepts others where they are even if they differ in beliefs like the union of Lucian and Sonia. And it is not in violent rejection but in rational acceptance and the ability to agree to dissagree. One can protect self and family; one should not instigate riot. Search for the one true light and hold it dearly and it will guide you faithfully.

The sequal is called Underworl:Evolution. Most of the same people are coming back such as Selene,Kraven,LUCIAN,Marcus,Viktor,Soren, and young Selene Which means there will be flash backs
and either Lucian is in a flash back or he is in the movie…..I can see how that is possible if any of you do not ask me. I do think that it is going to be a great movie and I trust the director enough to know ke will do a great job on it.

any one read Underworld:Blood Enemy. A prequel by Greg Cox. what do you think? Personally i think it adds a great new dimension to the film, especially the history behind the lycan slaves and even includes female lycans! Pretty cool, however i don’t think this story is strong enough for a full film! I don’t know what it is about this book, but it just seemed kinda shallow.
the thing i’m annoyed about is that i’m sure it would have been possible to come up with a much more complex, gripping and less predictable story, while still keeping to the preconditions layed out in the movie. I hope this book hasn’t blocked off any possible storyline developments. Still, i enjoyed reading it, so i suppose i shouldn’t moan!

Underworld was an amazing movie, I loved the effects and the costume designs. This second one should be just as awesome and I can’t wait until it comes out! I really hope there is more interaction between Beckinsale and Speedman, as well as more awesome lycan vs. vampire fights. Yay for Underworld 2!!

Everyone wants to know where the female lycans are. Though it is hard to see, in the first movie if you look at the stairs in the scene where raze is coming back from the subway fight, i think there is a chick lycan sitting on the top of the balcony bit. Not totally sure though. Could just be some human hobos. The sequel should be etch, i cant wait.

I know that a female lycan is in the second book right at the start so if that is in a scene in the movie sequel then we will see female lycans. Doubt we will see them morph though, that we be really weird anyway.
