Have you looked at this guy’s writing credits? Very weak. Big Fish was okay, but I doubt this will live up to the Gene Wilder version that Dahl actually wrote the screenplay for. I like Depp, but Wilder has that great subtle quality of being interesting, scary, and harmless at the same time. He’s like Columbo or Matlock: you think he’s always 3 steps behind, but he’s truly always one step ahead. I have a feeling this will be overblown and quirky without a heart. I wish Burton would learn how to finish a movie properly and do his own thing. It’s been 10 years since he made a good movie. I’m sure there’ll be some good visual moments and the score should be good from Elfman, but I’m not hoping for much here.

i think the new tim burton movie will be a big hit for him. he has always done the jobs that the other ppl r afraid to do. He always makes something interesting. i also think that johnny depp is a woderful actor. it is very rare to watch a depp movie that is not good. this movie will surly change everythin u think about the orignal movie and i think that is what will make it so good/

I think that this movie is going to be freakin’ awsome. I’ve never seen a tim burton movie I didn’t like. The Batman movies were awsome, until Burton stopped directing them, and nightmare before christmas…HELLO! great film. And don’t forget, Johnny Depp…he can do and play anything. He’s one of the great actors of our time, and he always has been, it’s just been recently that people have noticed it…so yea, Willy Wonka, you’re going to rock.

Nightmare and Edward Scissor Hands and god knows how many others *including Big Fish that i have yet to see..i’m so ashamed* have been fantastic. They’ve never lacked creativity and a strangly believable magic that can only come with a Tim Burton film… I can not keep track of who’s dead or alive but if Roald is still alive, I bet he’ll be extremely proud of this performance. Why not? And maybe this time he’ll be satisfied..I heard he wasn’t lasttime ^_^; And if he’s dead… sorry for my stupidity. Lol

i think a great willy wonka would be jim carrey not johnny depp i hope the film stays english and doesnt get that crappy kid from the sixth sense

Well, jim carry would be the worst possible choice for willy wonka. hes so freaking anoying with the constant over-acting and stupid faces… i just wanted to get that out.

im so glad TIM BURTON is diong willy wonka. what an excellent choice! Im very excited to see this. I think it will be differnt than the original…it will posess that wonderful dark fairy-tale quality that all burtons films have. All of his films rate on my favorites list… they have all been so great. just the imagry alone makes them a work of art.

And i was also very excited to learn that johnny depp–my all-time favorite actor–will be playing willy wonka. remember him in ‘fear and loathing’? he was great…i expect a great performance out of him. he can pull off that same weird dead-pan but quirky sort of thing that gene wilder had in the original.

Willy wonka is a great film. one of the clasics, but i do have to agree with burton that it is a tad hokey. I think that the new version will be as good as, or dare i say *better* than the original. If it were anyone but burton (besides maybe terry gillian) directing it, i wouldnt think so, but i can always count on burton to make a wonderful movie.

i look forward to seeing this!

Jim Carey would not be agood candidate because the whole thing about willy Wonka is how he has a sparkle in his eye as well as mystery. Jim Carey is not right. I have seen Johnny Depp have both without even trying. I loved the original and know it by heart, but I do think how advanced Tim Burton can make the factory will be amazing. I just hope they change up the story line too much.

i can’t wait to see this movie!! i LOVE all of Tim Burton’s movies!! (well, all that i have seen, which is most of them) i hope this movie will be REALLY dark at least as dark as Nightmare Before Christmas, i love dark movies especally Tim Burton’s because they are dark, magical, and sometimes even funny at the same time! i dont think there could be a better person to redo Willy Wonka, i didn’t really like the first one because it was a little to happy, i hope Tim Burton does what he does best and makes it dark. also, they couldnt have picked a better person to play Willy Wonka!! Johnny Depp is the best actor!! Big Fish was an ok move, my least favorite Tim Burton movie, but one of my over all favorites. i hope this one will be better!!

When it was first revealed that this movie was coming up there was a rumor that Chrstopher Walken would play Wonka. Much as I like Depp (and think he will be great) I would really have enjoyed some creepy Walken too.

  13. Carol said,

This will be fantastic! Johnny Depp will be brilliant as Willy Wanka, with just that edge of insanity, yet loveability. Veruca will be played marvelously by Kristen Alderson. I couldn’t be happier with the cast. Those who are familiar with either of these actors work will be tickled pink….or is that tickled violet, Violet? LOL! Can’t wait to hear the rest of the casting. I’m ready to see it and it’s not even filmed yet!

I was an intern on “The Terminal” and the production designer from that movie was also working on “Wonka” so I got to see all the concept art. IT LOOKS FABULOUS. Unfortunatelly, I read one of the early script, it was absolutely aweful. They’re trying to make the kids all modern and up on the “cool lingo” and it just comes off like Cody Banks. I’m telliny you, it was really bad.

  18. meagin said,

    May 25, 2004 at 7:15 pm

Thats right, all the kids are supposed to be wearing modern cloths because it takes place, i think, at this time period. My friend also siad that one of the last 3 kids came in all balck..hmmm.. i dont noe? BUT i cant wait to see it even if my friend doesnt make the cut as mike tv!(keep on posting)

I reckon this film will be ok. I will see it for sure, because it has Johnny Depp in it! (only the most gorgeous person in the whole entire world) It probably won’t be as good as the original though.

as long as they dont stray from the formula…only modernize the story…then this should be a full on kick a** film…
johnny depp is an excellent actor…and it will be good to see him working with burton again…who has the nack to physically project mental visualization like no other…
i totally look forward to this movie…and i wish it was out already..i’m too damned impatient..heheh

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is a great movie. Tim Burton is a great director. Johnny Depp is a great actor. Danny Elfman is a great composer. 9 times out of 10 people say the original is better between the original film and the remake, but there is 1 large diffrence Willy Wonka and the Choclate Factory was not based on the original book. Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is based on the book, so Tim Burton’s would be considered the original. People should stop giving Johnny to much attention in this film. He will do fine i promise. For those who dont think that let me tell you something. There are 2 types of people in this world people who like Johnny Depp and those who are jealous of him. Any one who sends me an email of comment saying deffrently proves my point. So anyone who thinks this film will be bad will be saying this is the first film in history where the remake was better.

Tim Burton is a genuis without limits. Him history in creating dark atmosphered films with outstanding creativity and incredible oddities leaves no doubt in my mind that this film will be incredible. And let’s not forget the incredible acting of Depp. He is a the new generation of Wilder with more darkness and at the same time innocence. He is near the top of the list of my favorite actors, and my list is farily expansive, as I am a movie buff for life. This film will be incredible. It’s been waiting far too long for both Burton and Depp. It’s perfect for them, and i think we’ll see that when the finished product blows our minds and become the greatest movie ever to be seen by any human being.

yeah guy who wrote the first message are you a complete and total idiot. tim burton is not limited to big fish. he is a very dark director when he wants to be. take edward scissor hands for example. charlie and the chocolate factory is a dark book. its not light and happy as most of willy wonka is. the most dark thing in that movie is slugworth. dont get me wrong i think tim burton has his work cut out to make a movie that is comparable to the origional chocolate factory, but his style and effort in previous movies give me no reason to doubt that he can pull it off.

I think that that is really interesting that the first willy wonka and the chocolate factory was not based on the novel. What is the difference between them? And what is all this talk about Charlie and the chocolate factory starring johnny depp is going to be dark. I don’t understand. If its anythign like the first movie, I just can’t see how. Especially if Johnny depp is supposed to be playing it in anyway similar to gene wilder.

Anyway, Johnny Depp is my fav actor so I just hope it goes well. That’s the bottom line.

Making the movie in a real Chocolate Factory probably has it’s good sides and it’s bad sides. But as long as it turns out great, then wonderful!
I saw the Preview and I loved what I saw. I think Johnny Depp will do GREAT in this movie like every other movie he has played in. ^_~ The Props in the Preview looked wonderful and I cannot wait to see it. The Preview of the new movie, like the original movie, made me giggle until I collapsed.
I hope it lives up to my Giggle.
