Disney to make Toy Story 3 without Pixar
February 4th, 2004 at 7:59 am (Movie News)

According to an article on animated-news.com the Disney / Pixar divorce is getting nasty with Disney threatening to take the kids and exploit them for every penny (don’t everyone look so shocked all at once). Yes Disney, which owns the rights to the movies and characters from Toy Story (1995), A Bug’s Life (1998), Monsters, Inc. (2001) and Finding Nemo (2003) says that it will develop a third Toy Story movie without the talent and experience of it’s recent-ex Pixar… now that I would like to see! Or rather that is something none of us want to see. In related news it seems that the Pixar breakup may give former board members Roy Disney and Stanley Gold ammunition in their fight to oust the much reviled grinch at the head of Disney Inc., Michael Eisner.

I frankly don’t think there is any possible way that Disney could convincingly recreate the fresh, clever, witty creativity that is really the essence of a Pixar production. Although it was a blow to find out that Disney owns the characters that have so far comprised the Pixar stories I’ve enjoyed so much, I think Pixar can carry on in its own direction. Can Disney? I doubt it. Let me not be accused of displaying schadenfreude, but I’m personally hoping that this will deal the death blow to Disney, at least in the animated-film department. They just keep heading downhill.

They may own the characters, but do they own the models? If they don’t own everything having to do with Toy Story, they’d be re-inventing the wheel. Good luck. I’ve disliked Disney for a while. I don’t blame them for trying to use what they own, though. I mean, how else are they going to make money? Treasure Island 2?

Please make Toy Story 3. You can do it like the lion king 3 and tell the story of how andy got woody the cowboy in the first place because in the first film we see andy playing with wooody but we don’t know where woody actually came from. We know where buzz lightyear came from but i bet people want to know where woody came from! Please take this in mind AND PLEASE MAKE A TOY STORY 3!

Oh, yes, Disney. Do go on and make Toy Story 3 without Pixar. And while you’re at, why not remake “Gone With the Wind” with Carrot Top as Rhett Butler (”Frankly my dear, unless you dial the center, I don’t give a damn.”)? Sheesh.
Disney has really hit an all time low. I mean, Bovine Bounty Hunters? Come on!

I have to agree with most people here - Toy Story 1 & 2 are Pixar’s creations, even if Disney owns some rights. THERE IS NO WAY Disney could approach Pixar’s talents for this kind of animated movie.
I’d rather Disney DIDN’T make a mess of TS3 - my preference would be to leave 1&2 as the classics they are, and not to make a 3rd movie that lacks the shine and whit that make 1&2 unbelieveably good. I still watch them…

From what I hear and have read, Disney wants to do this third installment of our beloved Toy Story WITHOUT Pixar? Excuse me, this Toy Story is a Disney/PIXAR production. This is a team project and if Disney is going to make the 3rd Toy Story without Pixar, they’ll have to give some money to Pixar studios unless Disney wants to be sued. And another negative thing about this SOLO project is the fact that without Pixar, the third installment won’t be as good as the others. Why make 2 GREAT movies and wreck the third one?—-perhaps the final one to conclude the Toy Story series? My opinion is “DISNEY, STOP BEING A BIG, SELFISH, ROTTEN OLD GEEZER AND MAKE THE MOVIE WITH YOUR PARTNER!” And here is a message to Pixar: “DUMP DISNEY IF HE CONTINUES THIS JUNK!”
This is the Terminatrix, over and out.

I reeeaaaally want a Toy Story 3, but I would rather it be an all Pixar production than an all Disney one! Why can’t Pixar buy the rights the need? Be nice Disney, Pixar kinda did save you from an all time low!

Well, TS2 was going to be direct to video, just like “Aladdin 2″, “Little Mermaid 2″, “Lion King 2″, “Cindirella 2″… you get my drift. But Pixar realized there could be more to it, and $omehow convinced Disney to remake the concept and come up with with the movie we all know and love.
Now, a TS3 made solely by Disney… <Shaking head in deep disbelief and disappointment, while remembering turkeys like “Atlantis”, “Treasure Planet”, “Pirates of the Caribbean”, “Bovine Bounty Hunters” and so on…>
A perfect reason to sit down on the sidewalk and cry. Please, somebody smack Michael Eisner hard in the head.

I’m gonna give them a chance. I just hope that they don’t blow it.
I remember a few years back, Pixar had an idea for Toy Story 3 but Disney wouldn’t let them make it. Probably would have been a lot better if they had done it based on Pixar’s idea.
But we’ll see what happens.

My guess is that if they do make TS3, it will be direct to video just like many of the other crappy sequels. I hate the fact that they made sequels (and bad ones) to classics like Cinderella…but they do it, and they make money.
Parents don’t always care if it is a good movie…they just need something to keep the kids entertained, and they know any Disney movie will work. It sucks, but that is how it works…I will not bother to watch TS3 if they go this route…much like how I would rather die than watch Cinderella 2.

Children know that it is pixar animation that makes all these great films, if they see disney have just made it by themselves they just really wont like like it. Pixar is one of the best animation studios around, disney can do it if they want but i think Toy Story is still one of the best animated films out. Please don’t ruin the sequence of Toy Story’s. Thankyou

I think it would be nice for toy story three to be created. But many people reckon that disney could not emulate pixars talent. i personally think they can with all of Walt Disney’s great, inspiring idea’s passed on to them.

I think Disney and Pixar are really good together why separate, please make Toy Story 3 but do not try to do it without PIXAR (it is not going to work that way. Kids now days have Disney and Pixar together why change it

I’d be very surprised if Disney could make a good (nevermind great like TS2) Toy Store 3. We’ll see… In the long run, however, Pixar and we-the-public are better off with their split. Walt must rolling in his grave. Imagine: A sequel to Bambi–his most cherished work–in the works. What’s next, Snow White 2? Didn’t live happily ever after after all?

Toy story3 should sooner than 2008.It should come out in like 2005 or 2006.I think Andy should not take the toys to a pre school nursery when he grows up because I read on the internet that that is going to happen in toy story 3.

with cars coming out in 2006, Pixar is finally free of their 5 film deal with Disney and i say good for them! Disney has been leeching off of Pixar’s genius for long enough. Pixar has enough clout now to get the voice talent Disney was lining up for them and i think they’ll do even better on their own. I’m looking forward to the Divorce…and to Disney’s utter debotchery of the Toy Story ..uh…story.

I am one of pixars many fans and i personaly don’t think that Disney have the talent to make film made with the qualaty of pixar’s. And Disney did not think of the characters from any of the Pixar films. Pixar did so why should disney take the claim to make a movie about someone elses ideas.

I may be only 10 but, I really don’t think you should ruin 2 awesome classics and make a 3rd one. Fine if you decide to make a 3rd one go ahead but, just don’t make it without Pixar. I looked at a previous comment and it said Andy would give the toys to a pre-k nursery and, that would ruin everything. So please Disney don’t make it without Pixar and don’t make Andy send the toys to a pre-k nusery.

First, with Cars PIXAR will be done with the 7 movie contract (not 5). Second, PIXAR wanted to stay with Disney as their distributor. PIXAR offered Disney 100 million per movie so that Disney could distribute, but Disney turned it down. They wanted more money and rights for the movies for licensing and merchandising. Disney owns the rights to all the PIXAR movies and including the upcoming Cars. This will be Disney Animations down fall. Personally I’d like to see Disney crash and burn.

FIRST OF ALL TOY STORY IS NOT A CLASSIC. SECONDLY TOY STORY TWO WAS BAD. AND THRID DISNEY USED TO MAKE REALLY GOOD MOVIES. THEY JUST NEED TO START THINKING HOW THEY USED TO THINK WHEN WALT WAS STILL ALIVE.
I THOUGHT CARS LOOK STUPID, WE WILL SEE.

[…] It has only been two days since Steve Jobs sold Pixar to Disney and the merger is already having healthy effects. Disney, which had previously announced they were going to make “Toy Story 3″ without Pixar (read as in ‘milk the franchise for all the money they could get out of it’) has reversed itself. Disney employees working on the project were recently told that: the ‘Toy Story 3′ production will end effectively [Tuesday]. They said that sequels should only be made if there is a really great story that demands it, and should be the domain of those who created the original film. […]
