TNG: The Ensigns of Command

The scene where a very annoyed Picard turns bureaucracy and red tape back against the Sheliak alone makes TNG: The Ensigns of Command worth watching. Add to that a well-written love interest for Data and you have a pretty good episode on your hands. I am quite glad that the writers did not cop out and try to invent some excuse for Data to respond to Ard’rian’s advances but instead allowed him to grow while maintaining his character. It is too bad they did not re-use the Sheliak race in a later episode, the idea of a powerful race with a strict adherence to protocol had great potential for future conflicts.

I like this one very much. It was well-written and very interesting…but for me the best part of this episode is when (heh) Wesley says in frustration that Picard wants the impossible, and Geordi returns “That’s the short definition of ‘captain’.”

Leopoldo-
Sorry, this is slightly off topic. I looked back through your archives and I didn’t see any Tribble-related reviews. If I missed one (for either the original episode, or Trials and Tribble-ations), please post the link. If you haven’t reviewed either, might I suggest? I’m curious as to your opinion on either, especially the original episode, being as lighthearted as it is.
Cheers.

No probs with being off topic. There have not been any tribble reviews because I am reviewing STTNG in episode order and the tribbles never made an appearance in TNG. Once I have gone through that series I have a couple of posts to make about DS9, though I doubt I will have as many posts as I do for TNG. I will probably want to drop a note in the DS9 posts about the time travel episode where they go back to the original series tribble episode. I expect the DS9 posts will probably start going up early next year.

Ah! Excellent. Thanks, I look forward to what you think about DS9, which is my least favorite series *hides*. Perhaps it’s because I haven’t watched it enough.

Allie, I think if you saw some DS9, you just might like it. I saw a couple of episodes, and really liked them. This from a girl who used to be one who agreed that Sisko’s only redeeming aspect was his relationship with his son, and Kira was the one who got anything done, and all that ever happened on the station was they got sick.
