TNG: The Child

I really did not like the episode TNG: The Child at all. Not only was it centered on the still whinny Troi but it had a pretty bogus pregnancy-to child in a few days plot. To make things worse it was the first episode of Season 2 and therefore the moment when we realize they replaced Dr. Crusher with Dr. Pulaski. No offense to Diana Muldaur, who I think did a great job in her ‘female version of McCoy role’ but common guys, what were you thinking?!

Hey. Troi is not ‘whiny’, in this episode or any other. The ‘quick pregnancy’ could be considered to be a bit hard to believe, but hey, willing suspension of disbelief is essential to a Trekker’s enjoyment of Star Trek. Also, while similar to Dr. McCoy, Dr. Pulaski should not be thought of as merely a female version of him. She takes a little getting to know, but I personlly like her, and think she’s a good character.

Troi and her pregnancy is really boring but I liked this episode because of Wesley. The main plot is so boring, it makes you wish Picard got his pants stuck in the tubrolift door just to make things interesting. But i really liked Wesley, he is so cute. All the second season ones are good.

Finally, someone who shares my opinions (at least where Wesley is concerned)!Just curious, though-what’s with the name ‘karlakrusher’ if I may ask?

uH oh.. I’ve been busted. I dont know if you’ve read the novels or not, but let’s just say it was inspired. No i am not blue (but I wish I were). If you don’t know what I’m talking about you should read more Peter David.

Yeah, you’re busted. Q-In-Law is one of my favorite Star Trek novels (I can’t decide between that and Strike Zone, which is a REALLY good book, and if you haven’t read it, you should). But you stay away from Wesley! You can’t have him!

NO! No no no no no no no! I’m NOT Wesley’s wife!! I promise. But you watch what you say.
And just why do you wish you were blue, anyway?

I also really liked Ian Troi. It was so sad when he died…-sob-
P.S.Karlakrusher, where’d you go? Have I scared you away?

Oh, the second season is my favourite. This may have something to do with the fact that the first episodes I really saw (The Measure Of A Man and The Dauphin-they were both on the same tape) were second season.

I actually liked this one … though sometimes the plot can be slightly hokey, the mystery of ‘the child’ caught my mind. Of course, I may be somewhat biased; this is the first episode I ever remember seeing. The way they brought in Pulaski was, I thought, hilarious. Especially the way she annoys Picard.

Gotta love Pulaski in this one…she’s a good character. She definitely takes some getting to know, but once you do, you love her. Or at least like her.

I love Ian Troi! Why’d he have to die?
