Beckinsale interested in Underworld Sequel

Kate Beckinsale in an article with MTV.com expressed an interest in reprising her vampiric role from Underworld.
“I would love to do it again, I had an amazing experience on this movie. I think that when you push yourself beyond what you think your limits are it’s a really profound kind of life experience. And I had an amazing time on this.”
“If Len [Wiseman] directed [a sequel], I would do it,” she said.
“I’m actually not a big vampire movie fan,” Beckinsale said. “I was really drawn to it by the fact that it’s a great action movie, [with] a female lead like ‘La Femme Nikita.’ I think there is something really cool about seeing a woman kick ass, whether you’re a man or a woman. For a woman it’s kind of empowering, but for a man it’s kind of hot.”

Not to spoil the movie for anyone, but there were some elements in the movie which opens the door to a sequel. First, as seen in the commercials, Lucian (Lycan leader) says that they’ll “defeat the vampires on their own ground” which they never did. The whole battle took place on Lycan grounds. Second, at the end, Selene talked about another vampire elder (other than Viktor), Marcus, to be awoken. If the sequel is made, I hope they concentrate more on the Lycans this time around. I felt the director, writer, editor, or whatever favored the vampires more. For every half hour vampire scenes, there was a ten minute Lycan scene.

The reason there was more Vampire material was because the plot revolved around the vampires. The awaking of Viktor was a major plot point, and the whole twist in the story was because of betrayal in the Vampire Coven.

I dont know about this lawsuit bussiness but the sony simply took a good idea that has been around for a long time that is really a public domain, as stated, and created probably one of, if not the best, vampire movie to be released. I saw this movie the first day and since that day i have seen it four more times…as for the sequel…I think that without a doubt their is definate potential for one. I even heard a rumor that the contracts have already been signed and that the sequel is a go. But the real question, I think, is weather or not Marcus will be half vampyre, half lychan in the new movie. I have debated this subject over and over again with many of my friends and i believe that it is IMPOSSIBLE for him to be both since he was already a vampyre…(as stated by one of the lychan members in the movie) As for Kate Beckinsale…all i can say is “OMG” i would let her bite me any day. Underworld in general has become my favorite movie of all time.

underworld was a tight ass movie, every one ,and i mean every one should go see it. not only caise kate beckinsale in freakin’ hot, but that she is a vampire , and the eyes(contacts) are so awsome, plus the special effects are super fantastic. I really do think that they should make a sequel to the Underworld. I would be really awsome. But ya gotta love her outfit, it is skin tight , but looks even better on kate. I’m more interested seeing the secquel of this movie. wana know what will happen to the lycans now that they no longer have a leader. Now that michael is a cross-breed immortal (having the same powers of a vampire and a lycan), what’s going to be the implication to both the vampire and lycan. does this mean a new race, a blood line of vampire/lycan. about Marcus, the only one left of the elders, is he more powerful than Viktor. really i’m in agog. This movie is really one of the best that i have ever seen.

Making a sequel to Underworld would be great, I and all of my friends love the first one. The story line is too great to abandon, and there is so much more to be told about this story. You could really go somewhere with this……..

3. (the half lycan half vampire thing was kickass)
4. Basically the whole movie was done in excellence, and unless you are physically disabled, and can not make it to the movie theatre, then you should go see it.

I have seen plenty og good movies but this one blows them away. Kate Beckingsale is very pretty. I hope they will make a sequel. I loved how the lycans could crawl on walls. The vampires were also cool. A comment on what Steve said, they were only running from Raze but he is a big a$$ mother F*****. who wouldent run away from him. You saw how selene just threw michael up onto the wall with ease. With Raze gone i think that the sequel will show a lot more hand to hand combat. As to what Triliatarian said about Marcus. Well that is a good question because Selene said that no one has survived a bite from both species and Marcus was awoken with lycan blood. The one scientist lycan who Viktor killed. Last I also agree with Triliatarian said, i would let selene(Beckingsale) bite me any day! The movie was a masterpeice and not making a second would cause alot of comotion. I know this sounds crazy but I think it compares with the matrix movies. Of course that will only be if they make a second or even a third. This is my favorite movie. I might buy some cloths from the movie. This is a great movie. If they dont make a second then im gonna go nuts. If anyone wants to talk about the movie or so,ethin else my email is

I assume that Marcus will indeed be half and half (an Abomination is the proper term) because it showed his eyes turning black at the end. And in response to Triliatarian, Viktor stated that Marcus was a decendant of Corvinus, and therefore he would be able to support both species successfully. And yup, a sequel would be awesome.
P.S. Did anyone else know that Kate smokes? I find it kind of a turn off…

wow strix. nice research now i remeber. And about his eyes. Viktors were black too. I think it is becauase he needed time to get the blood all through his body. And a sequel would be kool. Too bad Kate smokes. Maybe shell stop. i hope so. And ive found out something from readin the book. I was kind of confused because there were three circles in that one room but now i know. one circle was labeled M (marcus( the other V (viktor) and the last A (amelia). And who knows maybe Amelia was strong like Viktore. I mean it look ed like there were 5 werewolves (fully transformed). So maybe thats how they killed her. And ive found out (from the book too) that vampires could take on werewolves hand to hand just not fully transformed werewolves. Also i was also confused at the begining it showed 2 vampires and the Rigel gets shot with the ultraviolet bullet and dies but then it shows Raze fighting some vampire. So i found out the other one was name Nathaniel and he was a lookout an dwhen he heard the gunshots he came to help. Reading the book really helps. Another thing for Steve.Vampires could take on werewolves that werent fully transformed. And if the werewolves got hit by silver bullets and got a bit of silver in there blood like Trix(the werewolve selene shot that had to run and pull the bullet out), then they couldent transform for a while. Ok people read the book. It explains a lot about the characters and whats happenin and things like that. SO u guys should really look into it.

because if someone told me, that if i shot myself, and i would come back as a vampire OR Lycan, then i would do it. (ofcourse, i would really have to believe this person, they would have to make it sound really convincing.)

Hours passed in the silent cript. The body of the lycan scientist Singe had grown stiff with rigor mortis but his immortal blood continued to creep slowly across the marble floor of the underground chamber, threading its way throught the intricate design containing the sacred tombs of the elders.
The sanguinary passed by Viktor’s empty niche, then Amelia’s. Yet, with preverse inevitability, it came to rest atop the polished bronze plaque bearing the sculptered letter M.
For Marcus.
Rivulets of lycan blood seeped through the edges of the burnished hatch,slithering downward into the sepulchral cavity where Marcus, the last surviving elder, hung upside down inside his tomb,like a slumbering vampire bat. The energizing blood poured over Marcus’s emaciated frame, streaming down his skeletal body until it reached the thin, withered lips of a skull like face.
Minutes passed, until a dormant heart began to beat with growing strength. A sigh escaped the parched red lips, and a pair of hungry eyes awakened deep within the sunken recesses of their matching sockets.
Jet-black eyes, just like Michael Corvin’s had become.

I doubt it. It’s not really direct sunlight. We see the light reflect of the moon in the same way that we are able to see anything we see. You don’t see you’re shirt, you see the light reflecting off of it. I only think death occurs in the direct light of the sun.

The movie is awesome! Prolly the best I’ve ever seen. I’ve actually seen several times and I haven’t still had enough of it, maybe because the plot gives you more and more every time. Like said earlier, it would be a disaster if there isn’t gonna be a sequel. Though, it’s kinda sure there will. I’ve even read that Underworld is gonna be trilogy and the third part will actually be prequel. And like blade said, I’ve been thinking some weird things after this movie for a couple of days. Hey everyone. I, too, totally agree w/ most here: Underworld is awesome! I just picked up my pre-ordered DVD this week and I can’t stop watching it! I love to, for once, see a vampire movie (not to mention a werewolf movie) that’s not just a no-plot bunch of gore. I love that Selene and Michael actually have some depth to their characters. And I know I’m a straight girl, but even *I* will admit that Kate looks f**kin’ hot in that tight costume w/ her guns blazing! (And, to top it all off, she’s British!) I was so excited to hear that there would be more movies to come. Love to all you other vampires-at-heart out there.
P.S. Does anyone else besides me think that it would totally kick ass to be able to just jump off of a building, land on your feet and keep walking?!

Hate to be a downer, but how much you guys missed in the movie is horrible. Everything you say you got in the book that you didn’t get from the movie… well… its in the movie. The xtra vamp nathaniel fighting raze in the subway? well you see him as a look out before the fight, after the gunshots you see him run down, and when raze reports to lucian, he says they were ambushed and says by 3 vamps… do the math. Also the whole marcus not a hybrid or not… come on now, we’ve all made it past the 3rd grade!! Viktor saying that he was a direct decendent of Corvinus… a dead give away. As far as the lycans needing an untainted source, that was for their research, b/c they wanted to make a hybrid out of the most powerful lycan and an extremly powerful vampire (lucian + an elder).
As far as the talk goes on about a sequel. There are rumors of not only a sequel going out, but a prequel too. Also That guy who said something about, “beat the vampires on their own ground”… he needs to figure out that plans don’t always work. THey were planning to strike the Covens during the awakening ceremonies (their own ground), yet due to Kraven’s treachery being found out early, the fight came to the lycans… i’m to lazy to type out the rest of the mistakes I found. So next time instead of making yourself look stupider than you need to be when posting stuff like that, just AIM me at UPSlad26, and i’ll straighten you out, and fyi just be more perceptive and save yourself the cash instead of buying the book, they are one in the same, just that the book writes out the details instead of your eyes having to find them in a picture. Try some where’s waldos if you need the practice.

I was just curious who has actually heard that there is positivly gonna be a sequal? People have been sayin that sequal is about the vamp and Lycans History and how it all came about, and tons of other stuff but there is no actual page that says what it is about! I would like there to be a sequal Underworld was great and very detailed when i 1st saw it i did not get alot but as i saw it a 2nd time i got all of it i was not really payin attention the 1st time, But now i get it all!! I WENT AND BOUGHT THE MOVIE BECAUSE IT LOOKED INTERESTING AND FOUND A REAL SUPER MOVIE. KATE IS SO HOT I CAN’T SEE HOW THEY FILMED HER WITHOUT BURNING UP THE SET. AFTER WATCHING IT SEVERAL TIMES THE ONLY THING THAT DIDN’T MAKE IT LOOK BELIVABLE WAS HER MACHINE GUN PISTOLS. According to an article from Variety the Underworld sequel is due to start shooting this fall. Len Wiseman will direct again and Danny McBride is set to have the script completed by early April.

Underworld is the best movie i have ever seen. And in all seriousness Kate Beckinsale should have gotten an oscar for her performance. She nailed every line. If you are writing something like that, you might wonder, will these lines actually work, and Kate MADE them work. She really is gorgeous too. Yeah she is english. She went to a school near my house actually. And apparantly she doesnt just smoke - she smokes like a chimney. But to be honest - if i had to get cancer cuz i was married to her for 20 years i’d take it without hesitation.
I’m not kidding - this is So much better than the matrix, it is even as good as Blade runner, and better in some bits.
The have to make a sequel. Underworld wasnt a massive hit - i mean not enormous - but in a few years people will consider it to be a masterpiece and it will be menitoned as such.

I thought Kate’s ex Michael Sheen was superb - he didnt over do it - and when he sees Kate and Scott kiss - his reaction is really moving. Yeah - craven wasnt as much a stand out performance, but he was great as the sort of cowardly politician anyway. Actually he was one of my fav characters untill he killed Lucian. By the way - did you guys catch the twist that will have Lucian in the sequels. When Raze drops the Emilia blood syrninges, it must be assumed that when Lucian woke up, he found them there and injected himself - so now he will be a vamp/lycan, and the silver nitrate may not have killed him at all. I hope he is in the sequel anyway - he was fantastic - i cant believe Kate dumped him, thats a bit harsh - but then she got him the job too, and it might boost his career.

Jacen, That is a very good point about Lucian and the elders blood….about how raze dropped it. In another room someone had said that and it got me thinkin……That is very very posible, Hell I would love it if he came back in the sequal as a Hybrid, But I think if the whole sequal is about the past and how the war all got started then he has to be in there right. It would really be a good twist don’t you think! I don’t think alot of people got that in the movie and if they did they have not said anything. It would be good for the movie if Lucian came back because he was a really good actor and played the part very very well!

This movie is perfect… what other word can describe it? Kate could not have looked more fantastic in it and the acting by Michael Sheen and Bill Nighly is top notch stuff.
I am so excited about the sequal it makes me sick! I was worried about Kate and others not coming back to reprise their parts but it has been confirmed that she’s coming back (chorus of angels singing)! Sweet sweet news to the addicted fans of Underworld… But if they could make a sequel anywhere close to the Empire Strikes Back (my favorite sequel as well) I would be beyond pleased. But even if the movie looked like and was crap I would still invest lots of money and time into it, but I’m hoping for something really kick ass to come out of the sequel.
To sum it up… this movie rocks my world!

I’m happy they are coming out with some new Underworld stuff. I’m really looking foward to the deleted scenes and the new commentary. I think commentary from the actors will probably be the most interesting to listen to out of all of them. Kate and Scott were pretty abscent in the regular DVD so I’m excited to hear that they are participating in this one.
It would also be nice if they included the deleted scenes IN the movie instead of seeing them outside of the movie, but I doubt they will be. Ohh Well… it’s still good news to me

C’mon, there’s GOT to be a sequel as so much was left open for it. Plus, Kate in that trenchcoat, the wind whipping about her as she squatted atop that building. I must have worn my DVD thin just for the “back door” shot of her by now– the wind whipping about tosses her coat up as she is squatting there, so you can catch a nice glimpse of just how tight that outfit is.
Plus,… SPOILER ALERT….
At the end of the movie when Marcus opens his eyes, they go “hybrid” black just like Scott Speedman’s character did before turning into the hybrid vamp/wolf. The remaining elder, Marcus, would HAVE to be a hybrid, else it wouldn’t make sense.
I’m so incredibly ready to see the sequel to Underworld. It’s by far the best action/horror movie even made. My big regret though is that one of the writers– he who also played Raze, the Lycan heavy– was killed in the first movie. He was badass! I’d sell a few internal organs to be that built!

Well, we know for certain that there’s going to be a sequel. You can check out this website to see. It may be pretty short on details, but it can give you the boost of reassurance you might need, and there are some forum postings at the bottom for whatever discussions fans want to have.
They are scheduled to start filming this september, and release the movie sometime in 2005. Also, the title may not be Underworld II like we might expect. It’s currently called “Untitled Underworld Sequel.” I know I’ll be sure to catch it on opening day just like I did with Underworld.

I don’t understand why there is question that Marcus would be a hybrid. Why would he be? Maybe I missed something in the movie-could someone explain it to me? Besides the fact that his eyes turn black. Wouldn’t he just be a vampire? He’s an elder-why would the vampires make him an elder or not have killed him if he was 1/2 Lycan, especially the way Viktor felt about Lycans. Anyway, let me know.

Something I’m curious to: how did Viktor turn Selene into a Vampire?
In most vampire movies/stories, any human bitten by a vampire becomes one. In this movie, a human bitten will die due to viruses transmitted from the immortal. It would be interesting to see them explain how the transformation is done, and whether or not these vampires are actually undead.

Marcus and Michael are from the same bloddline. Marcus has the same virus that Michael does in his blood which would allow him to become a hybrid as well once infected with Lycan blood. Which is what happens at the end of the movie when the blood from the Lycan spills out onto the floor and into where Marcus is sleeping. They explain this during the movie but you have to pay close attention to it to catch it.

From that statement, it’s fairly logical to conclude that it will be her/Michael versus the coven/Marcus.

I am very excited for the sequel to come out. I love movies with vampires and werewolves anyway-but this one there was actually a story to it and not a lot of unnecessary gore. It was such a good movie.

Actually, when Selene tells Michael about being bitten and what happens, yes she says you die if bitten by both a vampire and werewolf. But she still says that anyone bitten by one single immortal will not survive more than an hour.
And regarding the transformation process: since death is involved in both cases, I would assume that the transformation happens something like in the Anne Rice novels. After the human is bitten, they must drink some of the vampire’s blood in order to survive and change. This is only a guess based on the bit of information in the movie.

I’m with Ram. I think that the Lycans will take Michael and Seleen on their side since they were the ones trying to create the Vampyre/Lycan hybrid in the first place. But I don’t really know about Marcus cause he was never shown in the film alive and talking so we don’t really know if his attitude towards the Lycan/Vampyre hybrid is the same as Victor’s. I’m sure he’ll be pretty torked when he realizes it but I’m thinking that he’ll probably fight for the Vampyres and I’m expecting a wicked kool fight scene between Marcus and Michael at the end of the sequel. re your posting of 6/16/04. What’s slightly confusing is when the lycan doctor was detailing the plan to combine the two bloodlines, they show him mixing vampire blood and lycan blood, the two destroyed each other. Marcus is a vampire, if he receives lycan blood, wouldn’t that kill him from the inside…unless due to his ancester somehow it doesn’t. The other thing is if Amelia is an elder like Viktor, how did she get killed so quickly. Viktor was incredibly strong due to his age (I guess), it took a lot to kill Vicktor, it’s strange that she was overcome so quickly. I’m asking you as your postings earlier made sense to me.

You’re pretty much correct with the Marcus thing. It is because he was a decendant of the Corvinus clan that he can accept the lycan blood into his system successfully. Regarding Amelia, I’m assuming that even though she was an elder, she had not been trained as a fighter like some of the others. It seemed like they implied that Viktor was the head of the Death Dealers as well. And we could see earlier on in the movie inside the mansion that most of the vampires were just socializing, and there was a completely separate group (Death Dealers) that took care of fighting matters. I’m betting that Amelia was one of the non-combatant group. Hope that helps.

The beginning of this movie… Was the first step on… A… Painful… Arduous… Clichéd… Journey… To it’s predictable end.
The only scene in the entire movie, which I appreciated seeing, was the opening sequence in which Selene is vigilantly perched high above the city streets. Your archetypal image of a modern vampire… Cool. From there… The poor attention to continuity, and the clichéd and linear plotline, and the devastatingly poor casting of roles (Craven and Viktor… The inept talent set to play them smothered the potential for these roles.) all helped this movie suck far more than it had any right to.
If there are to be extensions of this movie… Those untalented casting directors who are so willing to cast roles to untalented people, should be replaced by talented casting personnel, who can offer the roles to talented people.
Who knows, done properly, Selene/Underworld could garner a fresh cult following…

Everyone knows that marcus could have killed selene. She was not even close to being as strong as Marcus was in the movie.One of Marcus’ wings could’ve stabbed her to death.I mean come on now.marcus whooped mike up every battle and killed him in one. selene didn’t have a chance.
