History of the World: Part I (1981)

Proving once again that sophomoric humor can be entertaining, Mel Brooks casts himself not only in the lead role, but as 5 of the leading characters as he pokes fun at slavery, the Spanish Inquisition, the French Revolution, Adolph Hitler and of course himself in History of the World: Part I (1981). Full of bawdy jokes and toilet humor this barely connected set of vignettes feels more like a vehicle to put to film all those little jokes that Brooks saved up but did not manage to sneak into his other movies. What is amazing about this movie is that it works. At least, it does if all you are looking for is a bunch of well-executed cheap jokes.
