Spirited Away (2001)
June 16th, 2003 at 8:15 am (5 - Whoa!)
Director Hayao Miyazaki (Princess Mononoke (1997), Laputa: Castle in the Sky (1986), Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989)) again wows us with his superb animation and story telling skills in Spirited Away (2001). This beautiful film left me feeling like I had just come back from a trip to Fearie Land where I had been treated to a performance where I could only understand a quarter of what was being presented. I am sure that someone who had grown up in Japan would have a much deeper understanding of this movie, but that understanding is not necessary to be enchanted by it. Rather than attempt to describe the movie any further, I suggest that you go experience it yourself.

I really enjoyed this movie. I own it and watched it every night for like a month. My favorite character was the dragon version of Haku. He was a beautiful dragon. I loved this movie.

I would like to know if there’s something available (book, movie, etc) that explains every detail in this movie. I’m sure every character is based on something, without mentioning the scenes & circumpstances.

I fell in love with this movie immediately. Mostly for its great story and cool characters and excellent setting and background and and and…mostly EVERYTHING!
The animation isn’t that excellent, there were some bits in the movie when Chihiro would be moving all “chunky and roboting” in spasms.
But the story and everything else seemed to glaze over that burp gracefully!!!

I loved Spirited Away with a passion that’s hard to explain, and I’ve been writing and reading tons of fanfiction for it. I would love to know if there is going to be a sequel - I hope there will be a sequel, because it ended with a promise to Chihiro, and a promise to us, as well (in the sense that I take it). I hope to the Heavens that there will be a Spirit Away 2, or something. I don’t think I could stand the thought of Chihiro and Haku being separated forever, because of a lack of one.

i watched this last week- its such a good film- i definately recommend it! the story and the settings are so strong that it is almost real- that is why i enjoyed this film so much. chihiro gives a feeling that she is passionate about the ones she loves and this is shown across really clearly in the film and haku is really mysterious but you feel sorry and happy for him at the end. I really hope there is a second sequel because
1) the spirit world is really interesting and there are probably lots more secrets to it
2)chihiro and haku totally deserve each other and they look so sweet together- and it would be horrible if they weren’t cos you don’t know whether they’ll be together…

I really hope there will be a 2nd movie, and not that one called Spirited Away 2 The Cat Return. Because I read its summery and its not even about Chihiro and Haku. I don’t even think its about the spirit world.

Yep, very good movie, but…
1. I hope they NEVER make a sequel. Most people who decide to make sequels just because the first was so popular end up trying too hard and utterly destroying it. Like my Clan Wars books. The ’sequel’ series might have been good if you’ve never read the original series… but I couldn’t even finish the second book of the sequel series… completely ravished/destroyed/whatevered the feel…
2. Princess Mononoke was better. ;D. Sorry, I just like things that show the balance of good and evil in people… and the different points of view… and how hard it is to decide. Because people don’t think about it enough. Silly people.

this was the best movie i have ever seen. you can’t describe the feeling you have when it’s over. you just want to watch it again and again. it makes you feel sad and happy and so many different things all at the same time. it ws the first movie i saw that made me want to cry because i wish so much that i could go to the place where the story happens.

I really liked this movie. The setting and plot was really original and I liked the way all the diffrent characters in the movie movied, not just the person who was talking and stuff. and how ppl say haku and sen thinks its romantic and stuff. not really, i dont remember them kissing or anything.
lol and yessika get over yourself, it doesen’t matter how old haku is really, it was pritty clear to me that haku was the spirit of the river and had been the river spirit since chihiro was a little girl and he wouldnt have been much older than her then. and he must of already new some kind of magic and was not just the ordinary kid on the street before the old witch became his master and taught him magic.

after that i watched princess mononoke and it was my favorite. but since this review is about spirited away IT IS THE BEST!

OMG i’m totally in love with this movie. The first time it came on tv i couldn’t watch it and i was crying. i jumped for joy when i found out it was coming on agian. by then end of the movie i was crying. the ending is sad, and the music that plays in the backround makes it even more sad. there was something about this movie that made me believe there was a spirit world i even went into my woods to look for a bondon tunnels, and walked along the river hoping to meet a river spirit. i hope they make a sequal to this movie beacues the ending just says squel.
