Red Dwarf - The Movie Update
April 28th, 2003 at 1:26 pm (Movie News)
The Red Dwarf web site has an update on the upcoming movie. It looks like shooting is due to begin late September in Australia. The following descriptoin is a teaser of what to expect:
RED DWARF THE MOVIE is set in the distant future where Homo Sapienoids, a fearsome combination of flesh and machine, and the next stage of human evolution, have taken over the solar system and almost wiped out the human race.
The only survivors are the crews of long-haul space freighters that left Earth before the conflict began. The Sapienoids send forth fleets of Death Ships to hunt them down. One by one - the human ships fall, until only one remains.
Its name - Red Dwarf…

If that is the outline of the movie i will be very dissapointed. Although the prospect of continuing with red dwarf if something i dream of, i hate the idea of it being changed for a movie.

YES YES! WOOB! etc
A movie based on Red Dwarf, thats the best news Ive heard in a long time.
Please tell me its still a british comedy and the old crew are still the same, I think Id probably crack if theyve turned it into an Alienesque action movie or (God forbid) a B-grade castraphoe like Doom and replaced Craig Charles with some washed up Hollywood loser.

Yeah…..I’m not sure if I like the plot of the movie. Doesn’t seem dwarfy. And now that I think about it, what’s a full length movie of Red Dwarf gonna be like? Don’t get me wrong. I love Red Dwarf but its humor and worked so well because it was in small doses.

Of course Red Dwarf WILL get an ending - like it says at the end of series 8: The End ….pause…..THE SMEG IT IS! If you think Doug Naylor will allow the comparatively weaker 8th series to be the very last word from the ‘Boys from the Dwarf’, you’re all seriously mistaken. Whether it be a big screen version, or a ninth series…..it will happen. If not only for the fact that it made the BBC a ton of money and sells amazingly well on DVD. Thinking about that, a ninth series is a more likely prospect than a film. RD is golden property, and pretty unique in that all the cast, who are successful away from it, are still interested in carrying it on. On more than one occasion, I’ve asked them all, personally, and their love for RD is still there. It will happen, it’s only a case of when.
