World Entertainment News NetworkLuscious LIV TYLER has signed up to play 1950s icon BETTIE PAGE - and the part requires her to don slinky leather outfits.
The LORD OF THE RINGS star has been desperate to play bondage-loving Page for nearly four years and has been waiting for the right script to come along.
Her interest is supported by producer and director MARK MORI - who owns the rights to Page’s story, which has previously interested GANGS OF NEW YORK film-maker MARTIN SCORSESE.
He says, “Liv Tyler is still attached and she’s more enthusiastic than ever. When I first met her, Liv told me, ‘I was born to play Betty Page’. Right now, we’re trying to develop a script. We may have some sort of announcement to make about a script very soon.”
And even Page’s official biographer is keen on the curvy Tyler.
He gushes, “The meaning and importance of Bettie’s era doesn’t have to be taught and spoon-fed to Liv Tyler - she knows it already.”
Very interesting news, though Liv seems to be the wrong body type to play the curvacious Page.
Update: The title role in The Ballad of Bettie Page (2004) has gone to Gretchen Mol. Here is an image of Mol from The Thirteenth Floor:

Well, this isn’t really “new” info - in fact, it says Liv is “still attached”, which means nothing has really changed since she’s been associated with the project for a year or two now:

I think Liv is the best suited for this role, Gretchen Mol looks and acts nothing like Bettie. I will be very upset if Mol gets the role as the greatest, sexiest woman ever to grace Playboy, and any other photo for that matter.

They look alike, the are in the same business, and DITA has the attitude that made BETTIE infamous !

First off, if you’ll just look at the snapshots on this page, and ignore the hair, which is completely irrelevant because of course Bettie Page’s hair is utter simplicity itself to imitate, you’ll see that Mol’s nose and mouth look a LOT more like Page’s than Tyler’s nose and mouth.
Second, I don’t know how familiar you are with Gretchen Mol, but she actually has a body that is competitive with Page’s body, and that’s saying a lot. Mol has one of the very best bods in Hollywood, and Tyler is a nice-looking woman but simply can’t compete in that category.
Gretchen Mol is also a very fine actress. I haven’t seen enough of Tyler’s work to be able to compare, but overall I think this is a stroke of casting brilliance and I really . . . can’t . . . wait!

I think they both shouldnt play the role of Bettie, cause if Liv did, i wouldnt see bettie, i’d see liv, same goes for gretchen. I dont know why that person said it should go to dita, it has nothing to do with the way these girls look, must i say that bettie was not a porn star, and shes the queen of fetish, not dita, dita did not make bettie infamous, bettie made her. It should just totally go to someone who you look at and hear, that makes you think of Ms. Page. Then thats the woman for the role.

Tyler is perfectly suited to the part in my opinion. I can only really second what the others have said though. Although I can add that if you look at Mols filmography and then compare with Tyler’s you can see that she really doesn’t compare to Tyler in terms of the quality of fils she’s been in.

Makes you wonder what hollywood is thinking, huh? Liv is clearly the person for the job, but they’re looking at Mol? I loved ‘Tank Girl’, and was all excited they decided to make a movie of it, and initially they picked some new kid actress to play her who looked dead-on. Then the movie comes out with obnoxious and not-very-tank-girly Lori Petty. Well, I guess we all know it’s not about quality anymore.

dita is a rip off of bettie not a dipiction of her.. just because on dons the clothing and dies ones hair black doesnt mean they look just alike… that is an ignorant statement…but i dont think mol was sexy enugh to play the role liv would have been a closer bet…

oh god! i admire liv a hell lot and i think that she would have been great on the part. but i saw the trailer and gretchen mol is very good. dita von thiesen is ok, but i like the final result. all though im a little sad cuz ive always had the stupid fantasy to play bettie page my self. So u can laugh but that was my dream. hahahhaha im laughing my self. oh whatever om fucking 16 érhaps someday theyll do the reamke.

I think Mol is perfect for the role. One of the key and most celebrated things about Bettie was the fact that she was not a waif, not the unhealthy, thin ideal of today. I think Liv is a perfectly good actress but she is not exceptional. I have seen most of Mol’s work and I think she is perfectly capable of a sterling performance and, lets face it, the reason why Bettie is famous is for the visual, nothing else. If I had seen Liv’s skinny frame and lack of the curves that made Bettie the legend she is, I would have felt cheated. Too often hollywood compromises key aspects of stories so they can fit a name into a film. For once it seems like they got it right. BTW lay off of Dita. She is far more creative with the stuff she does than many of her contemporaries.

I have seen the notorious bettie page and mol was absolutely magnifecent portraying page. I couldn’t even fathom Liv Tyler in this role after seeing Mol mastering this task. For one, Tyler does not even look like Page. Mol looks dead on like the infamous page, and you almost think you are looking at Page herself. She carried the film so well and captured Bettie’s essence perfectly. She was the obvious right choice for the role, and if you disagree, see the movie and i guarantee you be amazed by mol’s resemblance and her performance.

Although this is true that Tyler does not have right body type to do justice to Miss. Page, i think that she would have done a better job on capturing who Bettie really was behind all of the photos and films.

Ummm in response to Sarah, Dita Von Teese is a natural blonde. Dita couldn’t act her way out of a wet paper bag either, has anyone seen that Slick City effort…. awful! Gretchen Mol has made the role her own with more panache than most actresses could, a rising star for sure.

Oh GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That would be so HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They should have let Liv Tyler do it! She’s one of the most gorgeous women in Hollywood! I would have seen that movie just to see Liv Tyler all Gothed up!!!!! I’d probably buy it too, because I’m a freak like that…and I’m a straight female, lol. I think that Gretchen Mol was much better suited for the role, seeing that she has essential characteristics that made Bettie so famous. Not only does she fit the role physically, and her demeanor is very similar to Bettie’s. I’m not saying that Liv is a bad actress, because she’s not. You wouldn’t see Bettie, you would be seeing Liv Tyler. Physically, Liv does not have the physical characteristics. Liv’s features are a little more soft, as where Bettie’s (and in some cases, Gretchen’s) are a little more angular. Liv doesn’t have that innate, incandescant sensuality, whereas Bettie (and Gretchen) are more comfortable in their own skin, as well as in their movements. (Liv seems a little more awkward, but that’s always been part of her charm.)
If anything, Gretchen was definitely better suited for the role.

WOW…this is crazy. I didnt even KNOW Liv was originally going to play the part. I just watched the movie last night with my husband and both of us turned to each other and said, “Liv Tyler should have played the part instead” Hahahah. I guess it would have made more sense. Gretchen Mol was great….but F#$%@ Hollywood had to go and pick some toothpick actress to play one of the most curviest idols of all time >:( Why not Calista Flockhart or Gweneth Paltrow???? BLAH!
I love Livs body…and whoever said that her body isnt compatable can eat a bullet! If they can find Gretchen compatable….the Liv most definatly is!!!!

I don’t know why anyone would choose Liv Tyler as even close in character to Bettie. Gretchen Mol is much more suitable. Gretchen at least has similar features in her face and body. Liv Tall, thin frame, thin lips and nose. I don’t understand. Just throwing long black hair and bangs on a actress doesn’t mean she looks like Bettie Page!!

I just watched it, and i must say Gretchen looked like Bettie, and she played the part very well in my opinion. I don’t even know who Gretchen Mol is. I don’t think Liv’s character/personality would fit the part and she definetly would not look like Bettie in the face. In addition, Gretchen’s body was comparable to Bettie in the picture, unlike Liv’s tall thin frame. Liv is a good actress, but I don’t think she could of pulled the part off as well as Gretchen did. She just has too much of her “Liv Tyler personality” in her acting.

The Ballad of Bettie Page turned into The Notorious Bettie Page I guess.
Liv is great as far as elves go but give me Grethen Mol any day.
According to the film and other recources, bettie page is not what I expected. She’s still alive at 83 and still has a nice face.

I think it’s rather childish of the Liv Tyler Fan Club (i.e. those who have posted on this page) to suggest her for the role simply because they are fans of hers. She would have been totally unsuitable for the role. Those that suggest that others should have played the role also fall into this trap. Gretchen Mol was perfect in the role - and I say this as someone who had never seen any of her previous work before this film.
Please, base your choice on who would do justice to the role and not who your favourite actress is. Gretchen Mol did good!

I am not a huge Liv fan - but she does have the enthusiasm
not sure about gretchen as I havenht seen much of her stuff.
Dita- possible but I havent seen her act, she is in the same buisness tho.
I hope the film is good that is all - it doesnt matter who should have got the role, its done ok? Everyone has an opinion it soent always mean they are wrong.
