Ben Affleck as Daredevil

I have not yet seen the new movie, but I do have to wonder: Ben Affleck as Daredevil,? That seems like such counterintuitive casting, and yet when you stop and think back we accepted Michael Keaton as Batman and Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man. Both Keaton and Maguire performed beautifully in their respective roles, yet I rejected both of them when they were announced for their roles. Now, Affleck has done great in his previous jobs. He showed skill in Shakespeare in Love (1998), Good Will Hunting (1997) and Chasing Amy (1997)… but Daredevil? I guess I will have to go see for myself.

How to Marry a Millionaire (1953)

Starring Betty Grable, Marilyn Monroe and Lauren Bacall, How to Marry a Millionaire (1953) is everything you would expect from the 1950s “Diamond Collection” of movies bankrolled by the diamond industry: Shallow, witty, sexist, fun and incredibly beautiful. With gorgeous cinemascope shots of the mountains of Maine and elegantly dressed sets, the triple punch of Grable, Monroe and Bacall are not all that make Millionaire a pleasure to watch. Just bite your tongue as Monroe explains that gentlemen pay no attention to girls who wear glasses or Bacall informs us that money is paramount to a relationship, and you may just get a kick out of this classic.
