Previews

What do the Preview before the movie Say about the movie you are about to watch?
So, I am getting ready to watch the movie ‘Jackie Brown’ and the video tape I have checked out of the Library has a set of previews before the feature. I love previews, or at least I usually love previews. In this case there were four previews.
Four previews, four movies. Four movies I have never heard of. Four movies I do not want to see. Four movies I don’t want to ever see. Let’s be clear about this: If I had to sit through ANY of those four movies I would consider it to be a waste of two hours of my life.
I usually love previews. In this case I am worried that if the previews are any indication of the movie to come, I am about to waste two hours of my life.
Update:
1. Jacke Brown is a pretty good movie
2. Quentin Tarantino is still an ass. Jackie Brown redeems him somewhat, but he is still an ass.
3. Samuel L. Jackson is one bad ass mutherfucker.
4. Pam Grier is fine.

Previews are many things to many people.
First of all, to those like myself, they provide a giddy look into the future of film making. I never stay up on what’s coming out and almost every preview I see is brand spanking new. I enjoy these “mini-movies”, sometimes more than the actual films.
What is better than sitting down innocently to watch some off the wall comedy and seeing the sweetest preview for the Hulk when you had no idea Hollywood had even been working on a film production? It’s so great.
For others, the previews provide a ten minute buffer zone of tardiness. I hate these people.
I’ve also noticed that previews are race specific. Case in point: 8 Mile’s previews were all featured famous black rappers/comedians. Yeah, they aren’t going to sneak in Episode III in with Eminem’s silver screen vehicle.
Speaking of 8 Mile, how did everyone like it? (Between 2-3 for me)

Oh I LOVE previews.. I check on http://www.apple.com/trailers/ regularly.. heck it was a motivating factor to get broadband at home!
No what I mean is what happens when you rent a movie that you are really looking for and you realize that every preview they show is for some brainless B flick.. to me that is usually an instant flag to drop my expectations for the film to come. This approach usually works, often the previews on a video tape are a suggestion of what quality of movie you are about to watch. In the case of Jackie Brown that fortunately turned out to be an inaccurate rule.
