Amores Perros (2000)

Dark and beautiful, Amores Perros is both moving and disturbing. Reminiscent of Pulp Fiction in form and mood, Amores jumps in time and space through three disparate plot lines. The movie is beautifully lit and shot giving a strange air of enchantment to the stories of personal pain and misery.

Newsweek article “The Matrix Makers”

Newsweek has posted a very interesting article on the next two movies in the Matrix trilogy, Reloaded and Revolutions titled The Matrix Makers.

The article talks about the making of the movie and gives broad details about the plots. It can be hard to tell with media for media articles like these how much of the hype is real and how much is heartfelt. In this case there seems to be real enthusiasm for the movies and a very real intent in the part of the Wachowski brothers to outdo themselves in the sequel. A few key quotes from the article:

“The theater that Silver reserved for his grand unveiling was juiced with 35 Warners executives—and one NEWSWEEK journalist—by 2:25. By 2:50, people were peeling their jaws off the floor.”
“ “Reloaded” arrives in theaters on May 15. Then, in a potentially risky strategy, Warner Bros. will release “Revolutions” just six months later”
“Silver is promising a climactic battle like we’ve never seen before: a 17-minute sequence that alone cost about two thirds of the budget of the first “Matrix.” (That film, in case you’re wondering, cost $65 million.)”

The Sixth Day (2000)

I had the idea that The 6th Day(2000) was a real stinker and waited for my local library to get a copy being curious to see it but not wanting to spend any money on it. I was expecting a brainless action flick with cheap one-liners, wooden acting, big explosions and no redeeming qualities. I got most of what I was expecting to get: The action is brainless, the one liners are cheap, Arnold could be replaced by a synthespian and I doubt many would notice, the explosions were needlessly large but there was also a charm and fun that made the movie rather enjoyable.

For any of you who went to see LOTR, The Two Towers on Wednesday and stayed through the credits, you heard the very beautiful and haunting “Gollum’s Song”. I found this song to be beautiful and enchanting. It alone was good motivation to go buy the sound track to the second movie. If you don’t want to wait, or simply want to enjoy the song right away, visit the
WINAMP.COM | Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers site to download a copy of the song that will play for up to 70 days.

Star Wars crackpot theory #3908B

After Star Wars episode II came out there was a barrage of discussions flying around various boards. They spread from the amusing to the ridiculous. Many of them centered on problems presented between the known history of Obi Wan Kenobi and the way the universe was reinvented by Lucas to allow for plot devices. I thought I would take a hand at out-doing all the theories in one amalgamated swoop.
